If it’s in a pelican case it’ll be fine

update for anyone that cares:

i wound up with an older non-pelican gear case that i’m sure was heavier, but no less durable. Cut the original foam to get a nice fit, and took the tubes in my carry on (stuck in some spare foam in a way that was probably overkill).

it went from denver, to chicago, to frankfurt, and was safely unloaded onto the tarmac in glasgow pretty much right after my wife and i stepped off the plane.

amp + case was right on the line weight wise to have to pay an extra $100, but otherwise everything went perfectly. 8)

i also found out through this that a princeton is just barely oversized to be used as a carry-on on most flights, so you could probably get away with taking a champ or ac-4 on no problem.

here's a perfect idea for a celebration photo now you're here. take a picture of it next to my rig. i think a David and Goliath look would be funny.

i'm glad it arrived safe. as someone who's worked on the loading docks. i've seen how packages are treated behind the scenes. not good.

yeah, i was definitely a little nervous about it the whole way here. i wasn't too concerned with the amp being thrown around–the case i wound up with seems pretty bullet proof, and i had the valves on my person–more so it wind up up in luggage limbo after the number of airline transfers we had.

wish i somehow had my twin with me, we could make a kind of cellular bars sort of thing.

Glad it worked out for you…

The Carry on rules got me wondering.. Are there any great 10-15 Watt Tube Amps that fit the criteria. I looked a little bit but everything seemed too big, too heavy or both…

What did I miss?

i don't have one to measure anymore, but the princeton was only a few inches over in two dimensions (for united at least–our last leg was on lufthansa, and it would've been too heavy by a few pounds as per their requirements), so i'm sure a black/silver-face champ would be small enough... maybe an AC10 would, but i'm not actually sure how big they are. also any older department store amp in that wattage would probably easily fit, though it might not be tough enough to withstand the journey.

plenty of amps under 10 would work, i imagine.

Would any of these fit the criteria for Airline carry on’s? I chose 7 different small Tube Combo Amps under $800.00. Most popular Makers I think would be usable for most of us….

Looking for Tube Amps for Airline carry on, that would be all around good Amps for most situations including small to medium Gigs…

Thanks
