Ooooh, I've had one of these. I, personally, hated the stock speaker but it was a fantastic amp regardless and never broke down on me.

Congrats!

mine has, in fact, broken down. it blew the output xformer at a gig. smoked the place out. when i had it fixed i got the guy to fit fuses so it never happens again. but an amp that always sounds great!

can't comment too expertly on speakers. i liked the cannabis rex in it, i like the jensen jet 100 more.

How very rock 'n' roll :D

I found the stock speaker in mine just to be rather farty in the low end, which probably was exacerbated by playing in a drop C tuning. Stock Traynor speakers are relatively well-known for it - but it's all down to personal taste, obviously.
I stuck some kind of Eminence in it (like I do with everything) and played with it for a couple of years then traded it for something I can't remember.

Anyway, whatever is in there, if it sounds good to your ears then who cares.

I found the low end quite overpowering when I was giving it a warm-up. Don't know if that's a feature of the stock speaker or not, and I suppose they put the treble and bass pots on to deal with that kind of thing, but I'm sure we all agree these are pretty good amps for the money, what with the point to point wiring and all that jazz.

If you can find a reasonably priced non-reverb Princeton, those can be great with the right speaker. The other guitarist in my band plays with a MusicMan 212, but in the basement he really can’t crank it, and once he’s been convinced to turn it down so that everyone else has a shot, the little PNR with whatever dirt I want cuts right through, especially with a lead boost. It’s a pretty clean amp all the way up though so that might not be the thing.
not in the uk. last princeton non reverb i seen was £750. which is more than i spent on my twin.
If you see another one at that price geez a shout, please. Unless noisepunk feels like doing a swap for my AC30 (and £££s) while he's over here.
