NAD: VOX SUPERBEETLE MINI

Post by Maggieo » Sun Jun 27, 2021 7:18 pm

I couldn't stand it. So, I traded some kit for a new citizen of Tiny Amp Town. You know what? It's amazing.

Everyone should buy one and then make a blunt out of an onion.

Sounds dank, AF. Solid state, I imagine?

These are such good-looking little amps. I had a Pathfinder 210 SMR for awhile, and often regret selling it as it was great as a home to practice amp. These look like pretty solid successors.

Yep, SS. Sounds pretty damn close to tubes. If I didn't know it was SS, I'd assume there was a 12ax7 and a single EL84 lurking in it. The "big" cab and Celestion speaker pprobably have a lot to do with it.

It’s got a Nutube 6P1 and - I believe - a class D poweramp.

Not sure about the poweramp, but that NuTube is really something.

Indeed.
I have a Vox MV50 AC, that I believe are pretty similar in sound, and it sounds really really good.

I've compared the VMSB with my AC4HW, and the Super Beatle has more of an AC30 grind/chime thing going on. It might be more Vox-y than the AC4.

The cats love it! one of my best pet-related purchases in the last few years.

That's an adorable little amp. It's like a small, Vox-shaped sculpture.

Honestly, that was a big part of its appeal. Then I played trough it and was sold. Man, it kicks ass. My JM Jag sounds like Pete Townshend's Gretsch through it.

This looks almost perfect! Does it run off a wall wart? Or is it more a laptop-style power situation?

MF has it classified as a hybrid amp, which is what I'm trying get rid of (old Music Man) b/c I want to go back to solid state. But this doesn't have the tubes I was worried about.

Never heard of NuTube before. Looks really interesting.

Yeah, it runs off a wall wart, a mid-stream big one, at that. I was dubious about NuTube, but I'm a believer now, and I've got some pretty boutique-y and vintage amps.

And it's so DAMN CUTE! Oh, and loud AF.
