Need some help regarding old tubes here. Teisco Checkmate 20

Post by muffonrat » Mon Jun 14, 2021 2:03 am

Hello everyone, as the title says this post is about a 60s Teisco Checkmate 20 amp and the power tubes 7189A. Have this amp for a couple of years for home use, low volume playing and have been very satisfied. Still original tubes on there General Electric 7189A. So I ordered a replacement pair of this particular type of tubes from TAD just to have an extra pair when the old ones go bad. I replaced them just to test the new ones but to my surprise there was no sound coming out of the amp. When I put the old ones back amp was working fine. So what's the deal with old and new 7189A tubes? There is a possibility the new ones were damaged in transit but this sounds unlikely since they were really good packed . Does anybody know if there are any differences between old and new tubes of this type?
