Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
Started building one of my dream amps in the fall but had to put it off my workbench for awhile due to other projects. I will get back to building this dr504 soon and overhauling the bastard Orange/green ppc412 to go with it. I have a quad of purple speakers to go in my green Orange cab.

Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
I dream much smaller these days. I want a really good AC15 style amp.
I’m not really into building these days, I just want something ready to go that sounds great and records well
I’m out of the loop when it comes to the current market of AC15 style amps out there. Any suggestions are appreciated.

A tube Standel with that great tremolo.
So hard to find, so expensive when you do.

I’m so boring, a JMP 2204 with a 4x12.
Or a jcm800.
I suppose I should be allowed another choice for a clean channel. Then we’re talking a Princeton or maybe a Tremoverb.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Both an or50 and rv100.
More than the amps themselves, I dream of a time, place, and need where they’re necessary.

I'm realizing I'm kinda done with building too but I've always wanted a Hiwatt and prices are absurd so once more in the breech dear friends...OffYourFace wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 11:26 pmI’m not really into building these days, I just want something ready to go that sounds great and records well
Thankfully I have a few great small amps already.

Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
I'm about to build something that is kind of a dream amp setup as it should be my *perfect* rock amp. AC30 type circuit but with both channels feeding the top-boost circuit and tone stack (those with the knowledge will recognize that this is kind of the 5F6A/JTM45 approach). Common input with bright and normal blendable volume controls. Cathode biased 4xEL84 output stage. LarMar Master Volume for when you need to reign it in a bit. 1x12" combo.

A vintage Princeton Reverb would tick all my boxes.

This is something I'd like to get too, a nice blackface one. People want wild money for them now though. To be fair though, my 65 VibroChamp is already too loud for the house and a Princeton wouldn't cut it with the band, so wouldn't really serve any purpose apart from being a nice thing to own.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 8:50 amA vintage Princeton Reverb would tick all my boxes.

Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
I had a silver face vibro champ in the 90s that my uncle gave me. He told me it wasn’t anything special, as it was a “beginner’s amp”, he said. I foolishly sold it a few years later. I was just out of high school and had no idea how good they really were.JSett wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 8:57 amThis is something I'd like to get too, a nice blackface one. Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
I've had a few Champs but they definitely benefit from a speaker upgrade. Put a nice Weber in there and they are transformed...no farty low-end, smoother overdrive. Utterly perfect.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 11:36 amI had a silver face vibro champ in the 90s that my uncle gave me. I don't think I can ever see me selling it.
I would recommend picking up one while they're still even remotely affordable.

Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
yeah I wanted one for ages too. I got a deal on a '69 Sound City L-100 years ago and I converted it to a DR103 (you may have seen it in the FS section) but it's too funkin loud. Even a DR504 is too loud for a live band these days.hulakatt wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 6:03 amI'm realizing I'm kinda done with building too but I've always wanted a Hiwatt and prices are absurd so once more in the breech dear friends...OffYourFace wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 11:26 pmI’m not really into building these days, I just want something ready to go that sounds great and records well

Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
I hear that complaint a lot but I'm not too worried about it. At least the 504 won't be quite as overwhelming. I need a big, clean and powerful amp around to keep me warm at night.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 12:14 pmyeah I wanted one for ages too. Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
Morgan has started making more AC variants and he posts a new one every so often in Instagram. They’re certainly aesthetically pleasing. Then there was his AC20 models. No experience with anything from him, but they’re popular enough.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 11:26 pmI dream much smaller these days. I want a really good AC15 style amp.

Also, IMO you can’t go wrong with the Vox hw ACs. I have a Matchless now, and I love it. But I still find myself wanting a normal Vox again.

Re: What are y'all's dream amps?
I might just get an AC15C1 used on CL to tie me over. Most of the demos online sound pretty dang decent.
