The irony of this thread title and its content is something I find highly amusing!
Me too!

Also, it's a pretty good object lesson in the "honeymoon phase" of gear ownership.
You guys do notice the ?? at the end of the Thread Title? You just can't beat a good Tube Amp!

You guys was meant, in general as in everyone. Not the OP specifically. I should've been more clear.. Thought it was a given. But, guess not.. ;)

Spoiler alert.

"You might be a redneck when..."

Combined 220 watts of US made solid state power.

Got the quilty dude cheap off le verb. I'm pretty impressed so far. Wired in a jack make the Crate a 2x12 cab.

Now this Crate (codename "soCRATEs") does have its charm. I hear metal heads like its gain channel. I personally haven't found a better clean platform. It's like a JC-120 without the stereo chorus or tremolo...

This thing is witchcraft. How does it have so much power while weighing nothing? I'm ok with the control layout, but I think i would prefer a standard eq like on the new model. I like the voice modes. I'm gravitating towards "full Q" the most so far.

I'm not sure it's quite as loud as this old fashioned SS crate amp rated at 120. But it's definitely all the power I could need.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

I'm gonna resurrect this thread to ask if those here that own/have owned the 50w version of these...

Would you say it's comparable to a 50w tube amp as far as volume goes? Looking for something I could sub in for my BF Bassman if I have to gig somewhere via train.

Struggling to find any clear evidence for an amp along these lines that has a) enough power and b) has a decent crunch tone on it's own

Or would the Overdrive 202 be a better option? Although I'd be wary of blowing cabs
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

First, I want to thank you for reminding me of this thread. My last post was made on January 6 2021 and I was shitfaced in a vortex of anger and dispare, sitting on my floor with the pictured bottle of whisky.

Second. It's no cap ( :fp: ), if it's 50 watts or 100 or 200, those are equivalent to tube watts. Search YouTube, there's a good video of the man himself with an oscilloscope explaining why exactly this is the case with his solid state and not with others.

But yeah, all but 2 modes on mine are 50w with the other 2 being 100w. It drives 4ohm and 8ohm outputs to move as much air as any tube head. It's utter madness.

Crunch tone is there IMHO. Again, that video explains why it's so tubelike. Personally, I think it works best in modes emulating British power tunes. In general, it's better at emulating preamp tube drive. In the black face mode, it's missing a certain chunder that really pushed fenders get. That might be different speaker distortion though.

It's not a tube amp though. As much as I love and use it, compared to my tube amp, there is a subtle difference. Personally though, the fact that it's analog is huge to me.

But again, it's witchcraft. I look inside and there are no output transformers, no filter caps, and a PCB with tiny components on it. Like, from a physics standpoint, I don't understand how it outputs so much power.

Edit to add. I just gigged with it last week in a 20'x30' room with no sound reinforcement. People were putting in hearing protection and the bass notes were moving my ribs. That was at "10 watts" on the master power scaling knob- about noon or 50% power.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

Thanks dude, definitely some good insight there.

The trouble with this sort of thing is knowing if it'll sound how you want it to without actually trying it first. I guess I could order one and, if it's not to my taste, return it - but I don't like doing that.

Skipped this whole thread to say that if a SS amp is making you quit tubes altogether, you're not playing (or haven't played) the right tube amp(s).

(Disclaimer: SS Amps are GREAT for some stuff. BUT nothing beats a nice mic in front of the right tube amp)

Not "quitting" tubes but looking at a Superblock US as a headphone option when I'm home and a backup amp for gigs in case anything goes drastically wrong with my amp. Some videos sound pretty good but there's not too much out there on it soundwise -- has anyone had experience with the Superblock US? And how it sounds driving a cab and/or handling pedals?

I have a Superblock US and like it a lot. I cannot
comment on how it handles OD and fuzz pedals.
If played over the same cab in 61 voicing, it is shockingly close sounding
to my 62 blonde/brownface Bandmaster‘s vibrato channel.
The headphone out is ok but not very exciting.
I have never played a vintage tweed amp, so I cannot
comment on how SB US acts in this regard. But to my ears
it sounds good in this setting as well.
As I don’t like blackface Fender sound anymore,
the 65 voice on SB US is useless for me.

Thanks for the feedback! A bit of a bummer to hear that the headphone option isn't fantastic but it sounds like this might be a good piece of gear to have around as a "just in case" backup. Have you tried any non-OD/fuzz pedals through it?

I think that a small device like Mooer Radar speaker
simulator between the headphones out and headphones
would significantly improve the sound quality
for headphones practice.
I have used reverbs (old Fender 6G15 reverb units and
clones as well as a SurfyBear unit) with SB US and it
sounds great. Other than this I‘ve used a fuzzrite type
pedal with it and sounds good as well. But with fuzzrites
it basically doesn‘t matter what amp you use, they just
take over and make BUUZZZ. 😀

That's a good point about the Mooer but I was hoping to get an all-in-one option that would also be able to drive a passive cab and it seems like Quilter are really the only ones that make a product like that. I had the Interblock 45 at one point and it was decent enough so I was hoping the SB US would be a step up. Seems like it might be more of a lateral move? But maybe I should just get over myself and have a few small Mooer-esque pedals--Radar & Baby Bomb would probably do the trick too!

And fuzz gonna fuzz hahaha
