Where in the world did you find NOS grill cloth?

My friend Ben (cabinet guy) bought out stock from another cabinet guy, Kerry Wright.

Thanks! I’m so happy with this amp. Now I just need a good Jensen P12-something. Not sure which model I want yet.

That’s not my shop though, that’s my friend’s garage. He mainly does tolex for amps and Rhodes. But now he’s building custom cabinets.

A few small updates... I promise I'll remember to take a gut shot next time, I forgot.

I put in the original 12" from my '76 Deluxe Reverb. I think it's a Utah? It's ceramic. It's a place holder for now and sounds decent. But i'm on the hunt for a good Jensen P12P.

With a 12" I have more bass on tap so I lowered C5 to 1uF/50v (electrolytic). Stock it's a .1 uf and I had it at 25uf then 10uf. The difference in sound between 25uf and 10uf was negligible, both were too woofy in the low mids. The 1uf tightened up the lows but still gives me a deep bass response on my JM's neck pickup.

C11 and C12 (.01 uF) coupling caps were ceramic and one was on its way out. I replaced them with Mallory 150s.
C13 (.047 uF) was reading a bit high so I swapped it with a Mallory as well.

I'm going to record with the amp today and see how it goes. It's a bit louder now and has a little more clean headroom.
But it sounds so sweet and vintage, so classic with nice compression. It's a big sounding 10 watt amp.

** I got to crank it today and OMG the amp sounds so good now! :w00t:

Some things I still want to do:

-slow down the tremolo a bit
-redo the grounding, replace some plate resistors and maybe isolate the jacks to bring the noise down but it's not too bad as-is.

awesome! excited to see inside.
i often like to slow down the trem rates on my old amps.
i don't know if they've drifted fast, or if that was more of the trend of the '50s and early '60s to have
that more rapid pulse.

looks like this is one modulates the power tube bias?

Yes. I'm not sure but the slowest speed on this is similar to a fender but doesn't go as fast. It's good as-is.

Also sound clips soon. I just got an amazing speaker for it from a co-worker, a '65 Jensen C12PS with original cone. It sounds amazing. I can't describe with words how happy I am with the sound of this amp. It sounds like an expensive vintage tweed now.

On the schematic I've got for this amp, the Tremolo speed pot is 1.5M, whereas fender uses 3M. This may account for the reduced speed adjustment.

Glad it's working out so well for you Mike!

ahh good to know! Thanks James! I hadn't compared pot values.

super cool! the PS is such a curious speaker. it's got that big basket like a N, but the smaller magnet. i guess it makes sense. they only seemed to show up in oddball American amps - i have a couple of Airline/Valco types with them and maybe a Danelectro or Silvertone, can't recall. or in PA and consumer "HiFi" of the day. made me think they were 'cheaper' speakers, but i think i may like them more than the many C12R's i have.

am i remembering correctly that you could slow the lowest trem rate by changing the pair of trem circuit caps from .022, to .033 or .047?

jimbo's note on the speed pot resistance rings a bell for the broadening the range.
i remember adding a resistor to my Reverberocket's speed pot, as i was, and still am, a tremolo fiend.

i'm trying to brush up on my theory, as i haven't been 'inside' amps much lately.
