50th Anniversary Roland JC-120

Post by Unicorn Warrior » Thu Dec 08, 2022 7:17 pm

Just saw they’re releasing this and I know a lot of us are JC-120 fans

50th Anniversary JC-120

The sides are Japanese Cherry and they’re making only 350 world wide. Price tag of $2000. Other than the sides, I’m not sure if anything else was changed from the standard current production model.

I do think it’s a cool concept. However, I paid $700ish from a shop for a re-issue brand new in 2017 with a discount. It was a good amp, but certainly not as good sounding as the 80s version I’ve played over the years.

I would hope they’ve done something extra to make this one special to at least attempt to justify that price tag. If it’s just a rehoused Chinese made 120 then guitar market hyperbole has reached its peak I hope.

That’s a pretty steep price if it is just rehoused. Heck, even if it isn’t. Maybe Roland is trying a new pricing model and selling amps by weight. If my calculations are correct, that’s just over $31 (USD) per pound.

Yeah, I like the idea that they did a 50th anniversary for an iconic amp, but I feel like they would have done better by not charging this much of a premium.

Yeah, it's super weird of them to title it that way, considering the amp itself turns 50 in just a couple of years.

In any case, this is clearly a collector piece and not anything attractive to actual musicians. Limited number, rare wood instead of durable tolex, massive price premium.

It's fine for what it is. Any musician who wants a JC120 has 50 years' worth of used examples to choose from, on top of the current regular production models.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

It would be great if they manage to get rid of the hiss that has always been present in the lineup; I am no electrical engineer, but it seems like it should be a simple-enough fix.

I wouldn't have any use for one, but it would be sort of cool to see a Waza JC.

Get rid of the hiss that plagues so many of them, for one.
