NAD: Solid State. Solid Tone. (Peavey Content.)
I was looking around Facebook Marketplace, as I do everyday and came across a Peavey VSS20 Head + 2 1x10 Cabs for $60. The guy said the pots were scratchy but the amp worked fine. I asked if he'd do $40 (because he said that he just wanted the space in his house) and he said yes.
Honestly, I just bought it because I wanted to use one of the cabs with my Micro Terror, but then I brought it home and plugged the behemoth in, and it sounds awesome? The volume pot is the slightest bit scratchy, but works perfectly. This thing sounds especially awesome with my Dano Bass VI. The amp has true stereo chorus, and that sounds fucking magical with the VI. I have to say, for $40 I'm reaaaaaally happy.

I don't know if this counts as an Epic Ground Score, but I'll allow it!

Amazing score, get your chorused VI on with some Peavey, just like The Cure.
Peavey stuff is funny. Some people don't like the sound, but if the sound is something you like, you end up with a bullet-proof amp for peanuts. Or less, in your case.
I happen to dig the late-'70s hybrid stuff, and my Classic 212 is almost indestructible at 45 years old. I'm 40 and falling apart.
Nice work, enjoy!

I can't imagine lifting that Classic is doing you any favors in that regard. Solid as a rock and twice as heavy!

My old bandmates (in Boston at that) used Mace and Deuce 2x12 combos, mostly because we could find them for $100. My god those things were fucking heavy.stevejamsecono wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 7:37 amI can't imagine lifting that Classic is doing you any favors in that regard. Solid as a rock and twice as heavy!

I used to wonder about picking up a Deuce or Mace. I mean, I like more volume, but... *gulp*... at what cost? And this is the JUNIOR version?Jonesie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 8:09 amMy old bandmates (in Boston at that) used Mace and Deuce 2x12 combos, mostly because we could find them for $100. The day I bought it I had to move it about six blocks up an Indiana hill. I f'ing slung the handbar of my bike through the top handle strap and attempted to walk the thing home. Took 30 minutes. The bike never rode right after that. And I think I lean a little to the right.
The reverb doesn't take to the Fonzie Fix anymore, and there's something up with the switching system. I'm gonna take it in next year for a recap, because I like it. Even if it costs a couple hundred bucks, I only paid $100 for it twenty years ago. So I'd only be... a couple hundred bucks into an amp that will almost certainly outlive me for the cost of a recap.
But importantly, I'm glad you're digging your new find. Peaveys can be the best bargain in decibels per dollar, but $40 for a petite stack is the deal of the week.

I think one of my guitar players just left the Mace at a venue, and the Deuce eventually had the transformer just literally fall out and my other guitar player left it at a practice space. They definitely weren't the kindest souls...MrShake wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 8:30 amI used to wonder about picking up a Deuce or Mace. I mean, I like more volume, but... *gulp*... at what cost? I oughtta go check the venue. It's probably still there.
I feel like the Maces are actually alien artifacts.
Cities and venues just sorta sprouted up around them, as they stand eternally. Always sounding like a Peavey.
