i remember a venue i played around 2007 had one and with my telecaster, i could get those jawbox guitar tones and was wondering if anyone here has played one and if they're as good as i remembered.

I toured with one in about 1999/2000 and it was fine for what I was doing (punk/post-hardcore). It wasn't very reliable from what I remember and sounded a little fizzy. I traded it for a decent lump of weed with a friend and he did something to it (maybe got rid of the clipping diodes?) and it made it more of a classic Marshall sound.

I always preferred an 800 or even a 900 given the choice if there was one of those at a venue as house backline (pretty common in the late 90s) and would just leave my amp in the van for the night :D

it was a post-hardcore band i was in at the time. i've always had them in the back of my mind, especially after seeing what JCM800's go for now (damn blooze lawyers on reverb, even the combo's are expensive now) but i didn't know about the reliability.

It wasn't hugely bad with reliability...I just remember it cutting out more than a few times for no real reason.

I've got a JCM602. I like it quite a bit.

Clean tones are rather nice by Marshall standards.
The drive channel has got clipping diodes which some don't like, a popular mod is to clip them off. I kept them on mine, I wanted to try other types of clippers (LEDs or MOSFETs) but never got around to doing it.

JCM600s were the same circuit as the JTM60 and were marketed as the "budget" JCM in the late 90s.
They have a reputation for overheating tubes. I've never had that problem with mine, but I've always made sure to leave plenty of space around it.
