Fender Shenandoah XII Neck - can this be used for an Electric XII

Post by Marc » Thu Nov 02, 2006 12:53 pm

Hi thrill seekers!

Just wondering if this puppy can be reworked to be used on an Electric XII?

Yes the cat has opposing thumbs and extra digits.

I believe the neck pocket widths are incompatible - the Shenandoah neck meets the (acoustic) body much higher up than it would meet with an Electric XII neck, if that makes any sense. Also of course one would have to modify the neck pocket to deal with the Shenandoah's curved butt-end.

I recall someone on the FDP mentioning their attempt to do this and it didn't work out. I have a project Shenandoah XII that I'm slowly working on, incidentally.

Isn't the Villager the neck with the round end, that goes all the way to the soundhole?  I remember Jim Shine talking about someone doing this.

But it appears you're talking about the radiused edge at the bottom of the neck on the butt. I don't recall which one Jim was talkinf about. I've always thought villager, but I could be wrong.

That might well be the case - I left mine out at my luthier buddy's workshop a day after getting it in the mail and I admit not having seen it in ages.

I just searched for "Fender Villager" in google and among other hits, your FDP Profile came up, Michael!

I was thinking of the Villager:

as opposed to the Shenandoah:

But I still don't know which one Jim was talking about that time. The Shenandoah sure looks easier to adapt to a solidbody than the Villager does. This being my "expert" opinion based on photographs....

Ha Ha this reminds me of the funniest thing I ever read about buying parts.....
"I just bought an entire Electric XII just to get the neck off for my Electric XII project."

I must be missing something here. You had a body with no neck, so you bought an Electric XII to get the neck off to put on that body leaving you with .. an Electric XII and a body with no neck. Isn't this back where you started?
