That was the gain combo I used for nearly a decade.

Two: a Tube Screamer in front of a Frantone Peachfuzz.

I've long been contemplating adding a third for something not as heavy as a Peachfuzz, but with more break-up than the TS. You know, something that could handle crunchy chords; something approximate to a Marshall stack, but without having to ditch my Super Reverb. BUT, I feel like adding a third dirt pedal would get in the way of my desire to keep my set-up simple.

2 usually. One of them has 2 'levels' of dirt, so it's kinda like I have a few different levels of dirt.

i use an EH english muffin´for a natural amp-like dirt that i can control with my playing (i play trough a clean and fat sounding fender 75 amp ) ,and for some solos a fuzz with optional octave-up ,i was thinking in going back to my sovtek muff instead...
i also have a boost in the board for solos ,but i´m using it less and less ...so 2 to 3 for me

I no longer have a board, but I usually have 3 dirt pedals on the floor. a Fuzz, boost and a Tube Screamer.

I haven't played out in years and don't get to setup my pedals at home too often (being in a middle floor apartment and having 2 kids running around), but from memory I have a few distortion/etc boxes.

DOX FX 56 Super American Metal (my first pedal, w/the bass knob in there I could easily shift from Ramones and Green Day to NIN and Manson)
Sovtek green Big Muff (fave setting sharpied onto it of course heh)
BOSS DF-s Super Distortion w/Feedbacker (seem to recal a claim it was used by Medicine, holding the pedal down introduces a sine wave. Kind of lame)
MXR Blue Box (really need to mod the volume loss out of it)

I think that is it for that type of pedal. Ususally I have one or both of the first 2 out and sometimes the Blue Box. Unless I'm trying to make a super muddled mass, then all 4 are out and in full effect :)

I always have my T-rex Tonebug Overdrive, and I have, on some gigs, used only that one.

Before I got my fuzz pedal I used the T-rex for overdrive, and a Marshall Bluesbreaker (with everything set on full) as a distortion.
Nowdays I use the Tonebug in front of a Mosrite Fuzzrite clone, and on the rare occasions that the Bluesbreaker does come along, I use it as a boost.

Here we go:
Little Big Muff, Boss SD-1, Boss OS-2, Blue Box and a Fender Blender.
I always keep the amp clean...

Borrowed the Muff from a friend, but I hardly use it so hes "borrowing" it back (we have an joint custody agreement since I replaced its broken tone pot).
The SD-1 I use as a volume pedal than an OD.
The OS-2 is my first pedal and has seen alot of abuse, its my main dirt pedal.
The BlueBox and FenderBlender are both new, so I had to fix the volume loss on both, now they keep up...

How's that Sugarboost treating you? I've been fighting some bad gas for one of them for the past month or so? :shifty:

It wasn't cheap, but it's a great pedal. I believe it's based on a rangemaster, but with a fat/thin knob which makes it super useful. It generally prefers a slightly dirty amp and will push it from a light crunch into something much bigger!

I only have one gain pedal on my board and it's a Super Duper. With that said, I'm just playing clean with the SD on all the time. The SD just makes everything sound better. I have a few pedals coming in the mail, maybe one of those will stay on board for good. Who knows!
