Damn that looks awesome! I love the shape of the body, and the modifications that you made to it. Seems like a better guitar now

I've come embarrassingly late to this thread, but I've just read back through it all and enjoyed every minute.
Looks like all your work has really paid off - brilliant.

Love the shape of that body and all the quirky details. I found a new utility razor blade works well for scraping the bevel onto the edges.

Re: Univox UC-2 resto ~ custom
Glad to see there's such interest in this. Project will continue, though, as I'm feeling a neck swap on the green guitar after all. Despite the frowns it will draw, my intent was to build a better player and that means ditching the narrow fretboard among other things.
Part of this stems from the fact that my "donor" guitar is too nice to break up.

Here's a shot of a Fender prototype Voyager, I see a ton of similarities in the shapes. I think Univox did it better. I will keep an eye out for a UC-2 or maybe build my interpitation of one from scratch.

....aaaaand two months later:
Shaped and mounted a new neck. Had to file the neck pocket to accept the new, wider neck but no issues and I got a perfect 25-1/2" scale from bridge to nut. Graphite nut, flatter radius (not too flat), Sperzels, and fresh medium-jumbo frets. This guitar needs this.
For those who are now reaching for a Kleenex, here's one last look at the Surf-O-Vox with it's 47-year-old neck...
...and here's what's to come...

Neck mounting complete. While i had to shave the edges of the neck and pocket a little, the neck angle was perfect without any further work needed.
Ordered a set of chrome Sperzels. Those, along with the graphite nut, will vastly improve tuning stability vs. the original tuners.

Re: Univox UC-2 resto ~ custom
Started shaping out a truss hole cover/headstock overlay out of the same plastic the pickguard was made from.
The idea is to:
- tie the end of the guitar to the body (in terms of color)
- add some Japanese surf guitar/Danelectro styling for more of the retro vibe.
- cover the truss rod hole while providing a large enough area to tack on a proper Univox logo
