I took the action/string height way down on my Tele recently and it's utterly smooth and sounds fantastic. It doesn't have the same 'bite' though. I might have to change it back a bit. Similar experiencies?

DEFINITELY my experienceMarko wrote:I took the action/string height way down on my Tele recently and it's utterly smooth and sounds fantastic. It doesn't have the same 'bite' though. I might have to change it back a bit. Similar experiencies?
tele just sound better w/ slighter higher action and w/ the pickups raised as well
I've sold guitars that had a stellar set-up and killer tone but buyers said they NEEDED "really low action" and - to me - it started just killin' the tone
a tele should FIGHT BACK just a little in my book

My main Fenders ('75 Tele Custom and '59 parts-JM) have 12-54 round wounds with medium to high action.

Thanks. I use 10's on a Tele with a bit of a twang. I think Tele's are the finest instruments ever made. The resistance is part of the instrument.

yeah I'm in. I've always preferred bigger strings and higher action, not just for the fight, but for the tone. I use 11-56 on my Tele and Jazzmaster, 14-68s for my baritone B-bOffYourFace wrote:WORD. All guitars should fight back or you get lazy... well, I doDanocaster wrote:

Right on...great stuff in this thread. Still new to offset guitars, but Teles will always be my favorites. A few I've done over the past couple of years...

Some sweet Tele's on this thread ! I just built this little barn burner ...
Ash body, 50's CP neck, Fender bridge and electronics wired up Esquire style with this pickup:

Great sounding pickup with that Tele snap .... this guy's onto something with his pickups.

A couple of photos of my re-necked MIJ 1986 Thinline Tele, which now has a Musikcraft '59 Esquire neck (nice and FaT!) on it:

Easily my second favorite guitar, after my Kelly Bowery Pine Tele. Maybe tied for second with Nelvis, my EC Jazzmaster. Lollar Vintage T and Charlie Christian pickups.

Thanks. Those were done over the past 4 years or so. Wish I had more time to do more finishing projects these days.OffYourFace wrote:wow plaid sabbath, you're a machine! great stuff

Amazing! The trans-green one about 3/4 down your post is extraordinary. What's the neck pick-up? it looks kinda lipsticky. How does it sound?plaid sabbath wrote:Thanks. Thanks Marko. I believe those were just Toneriders in that green Tele. Just a standard neck pickup. Might have just been a strange angle with the photo. maybe the pickup ring makes it look a bit funky.Marko wrote:Amazing! The trans-green one about 3/4 down your post is extraordinary. Re: Forgot how much I love Teles, AKA Tele Appreciation Thread
I just picked up what I believe is destined to become the primary gigging guitar for my classic country band... at least until I can have the guts transplanted into an offset!
It's a 2005(?) Nashville Power Tele with the Fishman acoustic simulation system. Literally an answer to my prayers for a good issue-free acoustic sound onstage. Through my Fishman amp it sounds amazingly convincing. I wish I'd have tried one of these ages ago!
