Sweet! The sunburst is great, and as you say the pickguard could be much worse.

I really like the lace .. looks like sunlight reflecting off water.

i don't know the "lace" term for figuring; it makes me think of 'lacewood' aka (Platanus occidentalis) and Silky Oak (Cardwellia sublimis).
i did find this on Musician's Friend, however:

A lot of quartersawn wood will have this lace as it's called. It was something a guy at a local woodworking biz here in Tucson told me years ago. I had a quartersawn spruce top and I showed it to him and that's what he called it. I've got a mahogany topped Tele that's got that. I'ts just beautiful when it's finished right.

I have to apologize for misinforming you all on what I called "lace". I was just reading through my Luthiers' Mercantile cataloge about various terms and realized I had meant to say "silk". I know that's as nebulous as "lace", but that's what I meant to say and had a brain fart. As defined by Luthiers' Mercantile, silk is: "the closer a soundboard (or neck) is to perfect quarter(sawn), the more likely the wood will exhibit good silk." I'm old...pity me.
