Black pickguard on Jaguar, and a question or two for a first purchase

Post by Dave » Sun Mar 11, 2007 4:12 pm

I was wondering if anyone can post links or pics of Jags with black pickguards.

I think I'll get banned for this, but I really just love the look of black pickguards over tortoise shell. I've been making some in the Jag dressing room, and they look uber sexy to me. Especially with the white pickups.

I think my quest for my first offset guitar is on. I'd like a white or sunburst Jaguar with a black PG. Obviously I can just buy a black one later if it doesn't have it.

I don't know too much about what to look for in buying a Jag. It's going to have to be an 80s or 90s RI, I don't care if it's MIJ CIJ or MIA (I think anyway...?) Any tips on what to look for/avoid?

I'm planning on flipping/trading a 1985 MIJ '62 Telecaster for one.

Well, the only Jag with black guard iv'e ever seen outside the dressing room is the HH(http://fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0259200306). I was just going to suggest you get a standard Jag and a HH pickguard from god knows where, but on second thought it would look awful with single coils.
Anyway, i think white or blonde with a black guard would be beautiful.

I don't actually own a Jag, but iv'e played around with a few, and in my limited experience the differences between CIJ and MIA are not that huge, at least not when compared to the extremely disparate tonal qualities of the CIJ and MIA JM's.

Black jag PG's can be bought just about anyplace for around $40,it's very unlikely you'll find a 3TSB or VWH jag with a BLK PG..........actually you wont find a new one becuase that model doesn't exist.
Allparts and GPR has blk pg's,just get a jag and change it,itl take 5 minutes. 8)

I was thinking more along the lines of "get a Jag HH, then refin it and install single coils under the pickup covers". My thoughts take strange and irrational paths at these late hours...

I was thinking of puting a black PG on my VWH Jag, the pup covers would need to be black as well tho.

Yes,it seems they do...i can't see why you would buy a HB guitar and put SC's in it.Or is it because of the trem you dont want?
The JZ/Jag trem is just the best thing to ever happen in the history of guitars imo, give it a try dude.Play some instore first!

JZ trem IS :-* :-* Teh Bestest!!!!! :?

For the last few model years (up until 1975), Jaguars came stock with black guards. Jazzmasters too, except their production went on longer. I'll look through my saved photos, but I don't think I have any of Jaguars with black guards, except for the bound neck '70s models.
