Bass VI Score

Post by thewizardofaz » Wed Feb 28, 2007 8:33 am

A guy on ebay was selling parts off a 62 he'd bought two weeks earlier for 2600 bucks. I scored the four-switch plate and the control plate!! Too much money, but when you're the only show in town, you pays what you needs to. Now all I need is a bridge. I don't want to use j/m bridge, it's just 19 mm wide (3/4 inch) where the bass vi bridge is 25.5...an inch. So you get that extra quarter inch of saddle travel. Now, the next step is to get the measurement from the neck pocket to a line that horizontally bisects the thimbles. The reason for this is that in looking at the USACG routes for the pups, it's very obvious that they are too far south towards the bridge. With that, I'm wondering if the thimbles themselves are correctly placed the proper distance from the neck pocket to give it the right 30 inch scale. So, if someone would do me a favor and take a measurement, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

this really is a great score(s)!!  8)

I don't have a Bass VI (yet!) so I cannot measure, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on this excellent project! :)

The guy who bought the Bass VI bridge I sold on eBay last month was planning on making copies.  If you want, I can send him your contact info.

Hehe, had to be one of us...  Nice score. I put in a last minute bids, so you can blame me for the price :)  I would have liked it as I have 2 non original switches on my plate. Let me know if you need any info.

Me too jet. Too many sources are never a bad thing. And anyone with a tracing of a non shrunken second gen pickguard would be helpfull too. This is coming together...slowly but surely.

Hey, I scored the mute! It's been missing on my 74 bass VI for years.. I think it's totally sick though to strip a guitar like that a sell it as parts. he should be shot ;)

Just wanted to say the really late original fender VI's from '75 have the jaguar/jazzmaster bridge(with the non adjustable height saddles) and mute and not the proper Bass VI one anyway. It doesnt seem to make any difference.(I own a 75 like this)

Glad to see that these parts ended up in good hands!!

Care to post some pics of your Bass VI?  I think I've never seen ones from the mid-1970's.

74 on the left, 75 on the right, notice the bridge difference.

thanks! yeh they are beautifull...the '75 VI is definitely one of my best ever finds. It is virtually mint and I've never ever seen or heard of another '75 VI anywhere. the 70's ones seem to be a lot rarer on the whole and I hate to say it..I think they sound a lot better too!
