they never came thru with the pics.  ill call back today.

iirc, the guy said that they dated it by the neck/body/pot codes, and are 98% it isn't a parts guitar.

my '72 tele has a 37**** F plate serial number, and it's 100% original.

If they dated the JM by neck and pots, it's probably a legit '67. The original neckplates on Jags and JMs have been prone to go bye-bye in the past, to later appear on "valuable" guitars like $trats and Teles. The offsets were robbed almost as often and as bad as the student models. Then as they started to re-gain in value, generic plates were switched out with whatever a person could get to put back on there.

I've seen tons of Jags and JMs with incorrect neckplates. It doesn't always mean "partscaster".

Besides, the neckplates were never an exact science anyway when it comes to dating, although most are within a year or so generally of the other dates and codes.

Probably nothing to worry about, especially if you know and trust the dealer. You could always replace it with a closer plate easily enough.

I'm afraid you're definitely over the limit on Tele's.. I'll have to confiscate one, I'll leave the choice of which one up to you  :-\
