Finish is real strange

I asked this question in conversation in ebay section but thought it would get more attention here.

Yea,some times when i sweat the nitro gets all opaque looking on my mustang and its an ass to polish out,
If i clean it with a dry cloth it stays all shiny,but if even one drop of liquid or a sweaty finger gets on it it goes all tacky looking,and  dull like opaque smudge ,then i rub it with a cloth and it goes shiny again,after a while of polishing.
Its not just finger marks,its a definitive difference in the texture of the finish,weird.!

As the guy in "The Graduate" said, "one word...plastics."  Seriously though, if you've got an oily skin, that's gonna happen no matter what. Virtuoso polish seems to keep it to a minimum though, I hghly recommend it.

Is it sort of a sticky feeling, like you spilled soda?  My neck on my AVRI JM does that too.

Yea,it was but the neck has virtually zero finish left so its ok.Its just the headstock and body.....
Like if you smudge on poly it will be gone in one wipe of a cloth,but this takes actual work to get it out.
It annoys me so fucking much that if its a nitro only thing I'll be not buying nitro guitars anymore.

#2. Never put the instrument away with moisture, sweat, grease or anything else on it. Human sweat will quickly oxidize, dull, and destroy a lacquer finish if it is not wiped away before it is put up. Human sweat will also pit and tarnish metal parts if it is not wiped off after use.

Okay that sites not working atm.But i searched some furniture and antiques sites and they all generally say the same thing,like you said above.
So il get some things from the hardware store and see if i can improve it,Its definatelly a nitro problem and thats not good news cause all the guitars i like are nitro, but i hate the shit now,it never used to  bother me but.......
Oh well,i can still get some vintage fenders with poly and cij fenders so it's not all bad.
If my mustang didn't look so god damn cool i would refin it in poly but its perfect as it is so I'll just have to start actually "caring" for it regularly with waxes and stuff.

Hehe. I hear ya. I've found that the best thing is just to wipe it down every time I play. I just use a regular old cotton cloth with no polish or anything. It takes 2 seconds and it becomes a habit pretty quickly. My sweat is really really corrosive and it's a problem with finishes and any metal. Your body may have a similar chemistry.

Fender makes a "Haze Remover" or somthing similar.  It works well.  I had a Les Paul that I hadn't cleaned in probably 10 years, and it took almost all of those dull/hazy spots out.  I was quite surprised.

A word of caution-do your darndest to avoid products with silicone. It's nasty stuff if anyone ever wants to refinish the guitar.

Nitro can be funny stuff, but that's simply because it's an organic compound. Check out antique furniture care information and products. Those guys have to deal with items more valuable than ANY guitar will EVER be.

Ditto on what Captain said. Don't use anything that's not made for a guitar, especially don't use furniture polish or Armor All anywhere near your instruments or cases. There's only one way I know of to get it refinished, and you have to shoot shellac over first to seal it in..or one of those poly plastic sealers I think, but I'm not sure on that.

Wipe down every time. I use Dunlop 65 and a soft cloth.

I gave the Fender/Meguiar swirl/haze remover a try on my LP this morning. It's more like a swirl/haze intensifier. Much elbow grease returned it to the way it was. The product now occupies a space in my dumpster. Save your money.
