Antigua offsets?

Post by djetz » Sat Feb 03, 2007 5:12 am

I've never seen a pic of one.

I've seen Strats, Coronados, and a Mustang, but that's about it. And I've heard rumours of a Starcaster. I've read that Fender offered the entire range in Antigua, which means there should, somewhere, be offsets.

So, any of you obsessive picture hoarders got an offset in Antigua to show everyone?

Yeah, I found one myself, too.

So I guess the Antigua Jazzmaster is the unholy grail now.

There are vintage antigua Jags and also a run of CIJs I believe. I've never seen an antigua JM, and I hope I never do. That Starcaster really rubs me up the wrong way as well .. as you can tell, I'm not a fan of the antigua.

Elvis' guitar is Marlinburst. fades to Blue-Green.
Fender made a few in the 60's, his was an original one.

The influence for Antigua, no doubt.
Competition Stripes make them play FASTER.

probs. with antigua jags-

-the pickups REALLY stand out as being bright white... I think black pickups would work on antigua jags, like the Mustang (where it works beautifully) ;)

-most of em don't have a matched stock :D

...some people don't seem to like the grubby, baby food green color that the MIJ antiguas are... I personally don't mind it, compared to the more white/black old skool antiguas...

Fender should accidentally fuck up the edges of the binding on more of their guitars again... maybe then they'll start making creative finishes :D (the modern range of finishes most Fenders are available in now is boring as hell...)

:-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

I looove Antigua!  I found an all-original Coronado II in Antigua with the matching headstock and the "Antigua" script on the pickguard at a local guitar shop and just freaked out, it was so cool looking!  I'll definitely finish a guitar in Antigua someday myself.

I LOVE antigua as well, but have never seen or heard of a vintage antigua JM OR Jag.  Every Jag I've seen was a MIJ model and I've seen most antiguas over the years-I've dug that finish since it was new! The MIJ finish looks nothing like the original to me.

I've seen:
Tele Thinline II
Tele Custom
Tele Deluxe
Telecaster
Stratocaster
Mustang
Precision Bass
Jazz Bass
Coronados.

The Coronados used the antigua finish to hide wood flaws.  The 70s ones were strictly cosmetic.  A Starcaster wouldn't surprise me as much as a JM or Jag.
