59 JM is underway!
so if finally got the bridge and pickups for my 59 Jazzmaster. i started with an inexpensive bridge, one of the no-name jobs that WD sells. i wanted to make sure first that the neck and frets were in playable shape. happily they are. here's the first mockup to check the neck.

Re: 59 JM is underway!
You can't post them from your hardrive... you have to upload them on the web somewhere and link them from here.
Here's a fast and free place to load them:
http://imageshack.us/
Once you load one there, copy the link and paste it here, highlight it, and then click the picture icon above. You have to do one at a time. Or you can load them all in a place like photobucket (a pic hosting website) and then link the album from here. I hope this helps!
Lookin forward to the pics!

Yeah, what doug said^^.
PhotoBucket is a site where you upload pictures in order to post them on message boards. It's a good place to put up all your pictures you have on your hard drive so that you don't lose them when reformatting your computer. ImageShack is just as good.

Re: 59 JM is underway!
it played ok, but i removed the neck to shim it a little more and increase the neck angle. here's the 3/59 pencil date. looks just like the handwriting on the example on the vintage guitar info site.

Re: 59 JM is underway!
so i made another quick mockup so i can actually play it for a couple days. and no i didn't put any extra holes in the body. i just used a torty guard i had around, a single switch to make sure both pickups work, and a volume control. it sounds GREAT!
more to follow as it comes along.

Yea man... lookin' good!
This one will be especially interesting, as we all watched it (on the forum) when it was on eBay.... It's like an old friend already.

Re: 59 JM is underway!
i think it's going to work out. i tried to take a photo, under the bridge pickup shield, there's a pencil mark 7/59. i'm not a good photog, i wasn't able to get it to show up in an image. i was a little worried about the frets, they are pretty worn. they don't have "cowboy chords" worn into them, but they aren't very tall. much to my delight though, i set it up and they play well and buzz free, even with a low action. i prefer a medium to high setup, i just wanted to make sure it was playable even with a lower action. next step will be some complete electronics and a search for a vintage bridge and tailpiece.

Re: 59 JM is underway!
The vintage bridge and trem shouldn't be too difficult to grab on eBay with a little patience. They seem to come up quite often.
Guitar looks good though. That's kind of a different 70's brown stain finish then you typically see... got a nice reddish look to it. You're going to refinish it though right? Any thoughts on a color?

Re: 59 JM is underway!
yeah, i'm hoping to refinish. i usually do everything myself, but i thought about having it done by someone with more experience/better equipment than i have. the seller i bought if from said it was "originally blue". i was told by a couple different shops that a sunburst probably wouldn't be possible, because the red in the stain that's on it now probably won't completely come out and would bleed up under a sunburst or white finish. i'm thinking LPB or maybe even san marino if i can find the dupont color formula for it. LPB would probably be more believable. if not that, then CAR. i'm just excited to have it up and playing now. i know i shouldn't, but i'm thinking of using it on some gigs i have coming up. what's the use of having a guitar if you can't play it right? i'm sure it will get a lot of use in my studio either way.
