Re: The D.I.Y. thread.
I've had much better luck with vero than perf.. I'll never work with it again and hope to start making my own pcb's soon. I used solid core early on but started finding problems with wires breaking off at pots and jacks so I switched to stranded, like Jay said it's a bit more work but I haven't had any issues so far.

I've done pretty much everything on vero..I got my own way to mount the pots on the vero board..
Architecture students are like virgins with an itch they cannot scratch, never build a building 'till are fifty, what kind of life is that?

Re: The D.I.Y. thread.
Fixed a PCB mounted switch and thought some people here might find it interesting/useful:
Someone had destroyed the switch. It was broken in two with the base still attached directly to the PCB. Tricky. However I'm fucking MacGuvyer.
Extracted the old switch with my buddies' help at work, with the awesome soldering irons we have and some desoldering braid. Top:
Bottom. Pads are clear so I can insert the new switch
However when I ordered the Alpha replacement I didn't realise that it was a PCB mount so I got the solder lug version, which doesn't fit into these holes. No bother, I have a plan.
I stripped a load of solid core wire and made these extensions to each of the pins with neat solder joints to the lugs
They feed nicely through and the switch is butted right up against the PCB
Spread 'em and solder one by one very carefully
Snip off excess and we're done.
You can see this section had a bunch of gluegun goo I had to carefully remove to get at the switch pads. It was holding on some insulating material, so I'll use tape to replace it.
Done and ready to reassemble
Mounted the pot and LED board first and then the jack/switch board. Everything nice and tight. Then finally the tricky part in seating the main board and the DC jack.
Screws all done up and knobs replaced and BAMMO:
One 100% working and sexy Guv'nor II pedal and it sounds ace. That was tricky work but very satisfying

Re: The D.I.Y. thread.
That sure is a lot of angry hyperbole. I say again - I'm sure Bill Finegan's profits are not being affected one jot by this guy, or anyone else, building their own version of the Klon.
A small percentage of people would actually be able to take an unpopulated PCB and make a functioning pedal from it.
Fewer could really be that bothered to source all the components to do so.
I don't seriously if any of these left would have ever considered buying a Klon because if they can make pedals themselves, then they would probably not be willing to pay the price or wait the time to have an original.
I've freely posted circuits and layouts of my own for others to use, and produced photo essays explaining how to perform fixes and mods etc.

Nicely accusatory... I merged the Klon stuff into the Klon thread where it belongs.

I think it's best we agree to disagree.
I'll be signing off from all this Klon talk...and the effects section here...if you guys want to clone things, go ahead.
have a nice day everyone

Not really, I just didn't know where the other post were at first. I agree they belong in the other thread - merge away!Jay wrote: Nicely accusatory...

Re: The D.I.Y. thread.
D.I.Y talking, tomorrow I'll finish up my SHO. The trotsky drive is cool as well, but I want to see if the SHO suits my needs.
ADDED LATER: Fuck the SHO, I love that Trotsky.

Re: The D.I.Y. thread.
I want to take a stab at pedal building. I'd ideally like to make myself a silicon fuzz face clone. However, I'd like to add a bias pot and a mid knob. Is this easy to do?
Any links to schematics or parts lists? Could somebody possibly list all the parts I'd need? PRETTY PLEASE?!
EDIT: Also, I'd be using this pedal with a humbucker-equipped guitar. Any mods that I could to make it more cooperative with my guitar?

Re: The D.I.Y. thread.
If it's your first attempt something more vanilla and without mods might be a better option.
Plus there are specific forums that can help you with all your beginner's questions like DIYstompboxes.

Re: The D.I.Y. thread.
Getting a kit is probably the best thing to do. I believe that there are plenty of Fuzz Face type-kits around - that's what I'd do if I felt a bit more inspired than I do right now.StevenO wrote: Herro?
As Mike says, there are pedal building/modding forums around, have a look at them, they're quite interesting.
