Electric XII Shematic/Wiring Diagram?

Post by Jay » Sun Jan 07, 2007 3:15 pm

Does one of these exist anywhere online?  I can't seem to find one.  I'm about to tear mine apart and see if I can't sort out the grounding/noisy pot issues.  I suppose I'll have to draw my own.

So is the idea behind this pickup arrangement to provide RWRP and still the single coil sound ?
Makes me think of this one by Curtis Novak.  :)

If the XII pickups are supposed to cancel hum why are mine so buzzy?  It's actually noisier then one of my JMs but all the wiring looks perfect.  I couldn't find a single joint that look as though it had been tocuhed and I'm not sure the pickgurad had even made it off this guitar more then once or twice.  So anyway, I wonder why the pickguard shield isn't grounded at all.  That's the only thing I could find that seemed to help slightly.  I stuck a wire under the bridge and ran that along the body so when I put it back together it would touch.

Interesting note...  one of the wires coming off the bobbin to the terminal had been shellac'd (or whatever the material is) into the screw hole so that touching the screw made all kinds of buzzing noise.  Just like touching the hot lead with your finger.

Jay,
I got a XII in for repair and I was SHOCKED to learn that these pickups are NOT RWRP.  Not each half like a P-bass, nor across neck to bridge.  This is SO odd b/c they had been doing such stuff almost a decade prior in other guitars.
Gonads are useful for their purpose, but are NO substitute for brains.

Hello!
After watching a couple videos on YT by Norman's Rare Gtrs, I realized my '65 Fender Electric XII was not "properly" wired. In the videos the guys talk about a N+B parallel comb and a N+B series one. I didn't have that: I had N, N+B, B and again N. After checking out the wiring image published here above, I realized one link was missing on the switch... everything else was just like in the image. The switch looks to be original and also never soldered on that specific pin. (I guess I need to figure out how to load pictures....)
Now that the link is wired, I have a weaker and thinner sounding N+B combination. Does that sound correct to you guys? This is achieved on pos. 4, or the most clockwise if you like. Different from the XIIs seen at Norman's... I am confused.
If you happen to own or know a vintage Fender Electric XII, would you mind sharing your experience?
Thanks for you help, G.

believe the electric XIIs had N, N+B (parallel), B, N+B (out of phase) and weak and thin seems like out of phase to me so I believe yours is correct.
