it's interesting to see that the pickguard on your (rather beautiful, may i say) b&b JM is 3 ply (tort, white, black).
is that it's original pickguard or a replacement?

That's actually the same guitar as in my post, I just changed the pickguard and the knobs

that's funny, I didn't recognise it... even with the wear near the input.
but I have to say that I prefer the white guard on it

S'pose I should put my 2 cents in:
And yes, the tonestop (tm) has since been removed.

To my knowledge, yes. Only thing replaced apart from a refret is the D tuner.
It's a 1973. Do you know what pickguard came as stock? in 1973?
If you told me it wasn't original i would believe you. It's not the same material as the modern fender torts today, neither the beautifull old celloid vintage torts. I think the tort is a kind of print.

I was a big fan of that guitar, too!

I put a black pickguard on my sunburst CIJ because of that very picture!
One more guitar, then I'll practice!

yeah, that one is beautiful. I confess I didn't even notice the black pickguard, I was too busy thinking about that sunburst. I *love* that sunburst, that's the way a sunburst should look IMO. It's bright but the grain is still very clear. It looks like a 60's burst but with a lot clearer grain. And I like the wood underneath it too.
In the early 90's, a used guitar store near me had a 70's burst just like this hanging in the window for $500. I didn't have the money to buy it back then

Anyone got a pic of the 3-pickup one on EBay Germany a few years back - modded at the factory? I had just sold my Travis Bean to pay debts when that popped up and it was the only time I considered blowing the money on another guitar.

Fender THICK SKIN - gloss finish... Haha..
Funny how the times are changing right?
Anyway it says laminated pickguard. That makes mine original i guess.
If there were a more authentic looking repro guard i guess i would replace it.
