That is an awesome guitar, but that color is really spectacular

Here's the comparison.
I definitely would have preferred mine to be greener and pastelier.

Imho, i prefer your blue finish/result with the matching headstock in your compare. Certain colors in accordance with the body and the stock are not visually pleasant for me like pink, red, orange... it's too rococo/toy plastic, it doesn't work. Finally I have a visual distortion of colors, I perceive tones different from what others visualize...
Concerning the preparation of the finish with the vinyl pore filler, how did you apply it with a brush or spray? Here in France, I don't know where to find this formulation or a substitute other than nitro or acrylic...

I use spray cans. A whole spray can of sealer, sanding it down between each coat until it is smooth.
Then I use a whole spray can of white primer. Usually just automotive acrylic. The same process of sanding it down between each coat.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
If anyone is thinking of getting one of these Hosco Jaguar bodies that are popping up on Ebay etc, there's a few things to consider.
They are not at all "vintage correct" I knew this before I bought it, so no biggy for me.
It will NOT fit a USA, MIM, Squier pickguard.
I have ordered a MIJ/CIJ style pickguard hoping one of those will fit it. I have the feeling it won't either. So I am now considering cutting my own.
The body itself is Jazzmaster shaped, Not Jaguar. So the upper horn is rounder like on Jazzmasters.
So they've basically taken the Jazzmaster body and routed it for Jaguar parts.
Other than these issues, it's beautifully made, perfect finish. excellent quality.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
That's what this guy was sold to me as. I figured they just shaved the treble bout down for upper fret access not thinking about the upper horn and the rest.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 7:59 pmIf anyone is thinking of getting one of these Hosco Jaguar bodies that are popping up on Ebay etc, there's a few things to consider.

Nah, I just think the manufacturers didn't know there was a difference between Jaguar bodies and Jazzmaster bodies.

Your post definitely makes me see that.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 3:49 amNah, I just think the manufacturers didn't know there was a difference between Jaguar bodies and Jazzmaster bodies.
Funny thing is that its not a gigantic difference, either, but every little bit matters!

I think it's pretty noticeable.
But I'm pretty fussy about design. things have to line up!

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
To be honest, it took me a little while on here before I realized that the JM and Jag body shapes were different. I like the Jag shape better personally, and would love to see the reverse of this: a 25.5" standard JM with a Jag upper horn...

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
It certainly is an additive affect when you compensate for other stuff, but the body shapes almost the same with the neck pocket moved in on the Jag and the upper horn adjusted to compensate.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 4:29 amI think it's pretty noticeable.

Other JM and Jag drawings
Actually, now looking at those drawings, I still think the Hosco body may be slightly tweaked/inaccurate. I have a Squier Jag body laying around that I can compare to. I'll have to be careful not to scratch anything comparing the CFM Jag to one of my Squier JMs, although I imagine my unpainted Tonebomb JM and Jag bodies are vintage accurate enough to compare as well.

Could probably send those photos and measurements to Herad and he could help draw up a custom guard that fits. He's been really lovely with helping me do custom pickguards. Most recently made a jaguar pickguard which fit Teisco Spectrum pickups, and a drilling template for mounting hardware on a jag.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 7:59 pmIf anyone is thinking of getting one of these Hosco Jaguar bodies that are popping up on Ebay etc, there's a few things to consider.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I did think of Herad.
I've already re-designed the pickguard. Maybe I'll send it to him but I'm pretty set on tortoishell for this Jag.
I was going for a half-arsed RSH tribute.
Those pickups look cool!

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
The MIJ pickguard arrived.
The shape looks stupid as well. Kinda looks like an Aliexpress Jaguar.
So, yeah I'll be making my own mdf template.
