Favorite Album from Each Year You've Been Alive
In my family chat group, we've started a project where we each list our favorite albums from each year we've been alive. Of course it's a bigger project for old-fogeys like me, compared to the young folk, but I found it really interesting and neat to go through and pick. Some years were really hard and I could have put four or five on there (as you can see, I did double up a few years) whereas other years were pretty bare bones and I had to throw something in there, and the early years run much more pop-heavy than my overall tastes tend to run, likely due to survivorship bias.
Anyway if anyone here wants to give it a go I think it'd be an interesting thing.

Nice. We have the same pick for 1980.
I could probably think of quite a few favorites and plug them in, but It would still be a fair bit of work.

Too many years for me .... But I'm gonna make a prediction from what I've seen of this young man, an exceptional guitar player .... This year is going to be Matteo Mancuso. I think his album is coming out later this year.
Eminently talented. Plays with his fingers, not a spectrum. And in between all the Virtuoso stuff he plays, he really punches out emotion out of the phrasing .
So Mancuso for 2023 for me.

Re: Favorite Album from Each Year You've Been Alive
Well, here’s mine.
There were a few years in the mid-late 90’s that were pretty tough picking just one album. There are quite a few artists I love that got squeezed out.
It seems my taste for new music has gotten a bit narrower from about 2010 on, but it’s also just that I been going further back in time with my listening, and not just for sentimental favorites. Some of my 70’s and early 80’s picks are albums that are relatively new to me.

It's my slowest time of year at work. I'm going to try and do this, it might take me a few days though.

You want me to pick 54 albums. That ain't gonna happen until I have a LOT more spare time.

I'm interested in doing this, but I'm wondering how you picked these. Did you pick your favorite album from the year it was released, or do you actually remember what album you liked when you were 12?

Not it's as of today. A lot of those albums I didn't know about then, and I didn't have a favorite album when I was two lol

I’m 42, so I’m not going to bother taking the time, lol.
Some good lists posted so far though, I gotta say.

Re: Favorite Album from Each Year You've Been Alive
I definitely didn't think that anyone would remember that far back, but on the other side of things most albums I listen to during a year, weren't released that year either. I usually get into an album late, haha. I should have my list in a day or tworhythmjones wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 1:06 pmNot it's as of today. I love how you picked a Yo Yo Ma record for 1983, the year many HUGE records came out.

I really like that record and listen to it way more than anything else from that year.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 10:59 pmI love how you picked a Yo Yo Ma record for 1983, the year many HUGE records came out.
He re-recorded the same material later and the playing is more mature and less showy, but there’s something about the cockiness of these performances that I like.
