I took the guitar to a local luthier who (who happens to have had one of Paul Mccartney's violin basses in the shop when i dropped it off)
Wait what?! As far as I know, McCartney only has his '63, and his '61 was stolen around the time of Let It Be.

Nice work on the guitar. I've never seen one of these in person, but was told by a guitarist on Instagram who only has vintage 50's/60's gear that he'd compare it to a 60's Jaguar. Is the quality on that level? I have a lead on one for like under 1000€ but it's far from here.

I think it was maybe a newer one or a replica he uses for touring, the guy's known for working on violin basses and said he was doing some work on it for a tour that had to be cancelled because of covid.

Cheers! I've never played an old jag to compare but the quality is incredible, i think some of the design features are way ahead of what fender were doing, like the roller bridge is amazing and the double single coil bridge pickup setup is mega cool. The things i'd say aren't quite as good are mainly under the pickguard, the wire used seems to be pretty cheap compared to cloth fender wire (which i don't really care about) and the fact that they're not really shielded properly and apparently can be quite noisy (though previous owner had mine shielded). Sound wise i would put it up against any old jag, it's beautiful. Under 1000 is a good price i reckon if it's in decent condition, what colour?

Kudos for bringing it back to its former glory! These vintage Yamahas are wonderful. I've got a mint SB-2 and it's a great instrument.

Oh, and I'm totally stealing this pic for the Faces in places thread :)

Awesome work on that neck!

Also I’d totally snap up an SG2 or SG3 reissue in coral red in a heartbeat.
