You'd Prefer an Astronaut and Downward is Heavenward are 2 really fantastic albums. The super monotonous voice works really well for their stuff too.

Love HUM.

I used to take Downward Is Heavenward with my when I went into a studio (or stereo equipment shopping) as a yardstick to gauge low-mids. Guitars with girth.

Inlet is INCREDIBLE. I still cannot believe we have a new Hum album after 22 years...and the fact that it's great is just... :wtf:

Perhaps one day I'll check them out but if nothing else, this my favorite thing HUM related and will remain as such:

fastest 8 bucks I spent......

The new HUM sounds like the old HUM.......the new stuff is a combination of the last cd's put together....IT'S HEAVY !!!! Crushing, but beautiful guitars......tempos are slow and fast....vocals sound EXACTLY the same....oh this is good. finally, something happy to get into.

I wonder if this will drive up the price of my original downward is heavenward vinyl. I was an obsessive fan in the mid late 90s and collected everything I could. Most of my first eBay purchases were rarer Hum items like EPs and such. Still have my Fillet Show cassette somewhere and a downward promo poster, maybe I should just hang it up in the garage.

First listen this sounded super metal, but second listen sounded more shoegazey to me. Goddamn, finally a reunion album that’s good.

Since the first rumblings of a new album back around 2016, we've been following live performances and speculating what would make the "new album" track list. The results are in! Inlet shakes out with three unspoiled tracks and a few surprises...

- Waves: never public before today.

- In The Den: an instrumental rendition known as "Greasy Bones" was played 2/2018
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umeEr4aGSjA

- Desert Rambler: performed in its final form last November (2019)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtqfK1AlVKk

- Step Into You: never public before today.

- The Summoning: performed twice, 2017 and 2018
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr6JvY3tNFg

- Cloud City: an older "new" song dating back to 2011, played a bunch of times (11) over the years
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhFOiAEIWEs

- Folding: played once 2/2018, speculatively known as "Folding Space"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0O6aTWdi2BE

- Shapeshifter: never public before today.

As for the ones that missed the cut:-

- Inklings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzBSx3VZWcI In a surprising turn, this song has been extremely common in their setlists since 2000 (played 43 times) yet didn't make the album (it's close enough in vintage to DiH that I could picture it feeling out of place on Inlet). All the same, between Inklings and Cloud City, I would have guessed they'd use Inklings (I'm glad we got Cloud City though!)

- Voyager 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPdlJrkwbBE This one showed up once back in 2016 around the time of early "new album" speculation. Sounds like a prototype moving in the direction of The Summoning.

Hum, Failure, Swervedriver and Slowdive all back together, recording, touring and better than ever.

This new HUM album is crushingly heavy and beautiful all at once. Droney shoegaze floating around in the background with bludgeoningly heavy riffs caving your head in.

If you dig this sound, checkout Spotlights, who I'm sure are heavily influenced by HUM.

Really enjoying this... I got the vinyl and it comes with 24-bit WAV downloads, which was surprising...
