Quilter making me QUIT T00BZ??

Post by peterherman » Fri Jun 26, 2020 4:37 pm

Maybe not, but since picking up a Quilter Mini 101 and 1x10 Blockdock, I haven't switched my AC10CC1 on one time. Thought I was done with solid state, but now...

I grabbed it on the cheap to use as a headphone aid when the kid's asleep but it sounds so good.

There are 8 amps in my house, and only one of them is fully tube. Two are hybrids.

A good amp is a good amp.

I've had everything and now I mainly play a Roland Cube 60 :D
It sounds so good tho. I've wanted to try a Quilter for a long time.

I fully recommend it. The real penny-drop for me was realizing that at least 85% of my "tone" is coming from the string of solid state devices that process the signal before the amp gets hold of it. I'm going to try running the effects loop send into an IR loader for headphone practice. I discovered the hard way that the headphone out does NOT mute the speaker out. At least the kid wasn't napping anyhow.

C'mon man. Do it. Join me. We'll be able to tour in a sedan if touring and live shows ever happen again.

I haven't tried the quilter stuff, but the Aguilar TH500 (class D) bass head is smaller and lighter (and sounds better) than a cookbook.

Solid state is where it's at. I quit tubes years ago but for one small combo amp that I love.

Cheap, clean, and reliable wins in my book.
This is an excellent rectangle

Yeah I'm getting way more into an amp that just works instead of an amp that is cool. Normcore for amps

Oh man, that's kind of perfect. In another thread, I do a little talking about cobbling together a stereo power amp head from a couple of class D power boards to use as a clean amp after pedals and a pre on the floor. I haven't done it yet, but I'd like to and have been reading up.

Is quite a different sound to an ac30cc1.. I had a love-hate thing with mine.

Fender styled are a different matter maybe.

But now, I have vintage solid states (which is 70-80s?) yamaha, HH, carlsbro...thinking of getting a peavey stereo chorus..

Thing is with loops, verbs, so many layers that the effects section seems to suggest people on here use (...maybe is not so many as me?), well even pedal-loving tube amps like a hot rod have only been ok to a point. Nothing so far has killed my carlsboro super stingray's clarity at volume and i'm literally filling in for bass AND lead simultaneously. Not the clearest sounding amp "tone-wise", but retains the clarity in bands with lots of stuff fed into it.

If on the other hand i had a dual amp rig that might be different. Considered getting a 1W for recording some dirt tones sometimes, but that's one layer with full multitracking control.

Quilters are fine amps. I have had 101 Mini, Micro Pro Mach 2 head, and 101 Reverb. 101 Mini and Micro Pro are gone.
I like the small 101 heads more than the Micro Pro. Lead Voice on 101 Mini with a Jaguar was a pure magic .
I ended up with 101 Reverb because of the TMB tone stack and limiter, which is the essential feature of Quilter amps.

The perfect Quilter for me would be 101 Reverb without reverb but with the voice switch from 101 Mini.

I don't care if the amp is tube or solid state based as long as it sounds and feels good to me.

Congratulations on your Quilter!
