Jaguar Special HH MIJ
I have a chance to pick one of these up, thinking if I hate the hummers I could put in jag pickups and a tort pickguard.
Anybody have one? It’s black with black headstock, I like the blacks.

I have the gunmetal blue Jag HH and love it. The Dragster pickups blow, though.

I have owned two of the black ones and one gunmetal blue. I still have one of each of those colours. Great guitars. The stock pickups are nice enough but I've never been a PAF kind of guy so I swapped them out. I've liked them more than their MIM competitors.

Yeah, the guy wants $500, not much playtime on it. I'm gonna look at it tomorrow and probably get it if it's decent.

They are well made guitars.
Play around with the pickup height before you decide on any changes.
When first released the shielding was very poorly done.

Seriously, that is underpriced. These MIJs are nicer than the MIM blacktops by a significant margin (I've owned both). These days there are new Squiers that sell for almost that much, I'd jump on that deal unless there was something wrong with it.

Re: Jaguar Special HH MIJ
The only things I've ever disliked about my HH Specials are that 1) a pickup ring on a pickguard is unnecessary and silly, they could have just cut the guard to accept a humbucker directly like a Blacktop, and 2) The single-ply guard lacks definition on the body.
I've never seen this offered as an option, so it'd probably have to be custom cut, but I've always wanted to get a B/W/B pickguard cut for pickguard-mounted HBs. I feel like that would look great on them.

Re: Jaguar Special HH MIJ
So,
I just bought the JM Jag on here and it came with a spitfire tort guard and an extra set of pups. I really like tort on black for that body shape or I could swap the w/b/w on the marr with the tort and try the white on the HH. I might really like the low fi humbuckers also, I’m nothing that invested in swapping pups, I’m more inclined to fiddle all the knobs to get a sound I want.

Re: Jaguar Special HH MIJ
I went and picked it up today, the reason it didn’t sell earlier is that there is a “used” stamped into the back of the headstock, three of the serial number digits have been taken off and there is a body ding on the bottom bout likely from a drop. No fretwear, a beautiful dark fingerboard and everything else original. It’s really nice, I’ll do a setup before I change any components.

I love mine, it's my #1 gig guitar. It's obviously been heavily modified and I never got a chance to play it with the original pickups, but the neck is fantastic and the matching headstock is super sharp. Congrats on snagging one, I hope it works for you!

Thanks, I will enjoy it for sure! I like your white pick guard, the contrast works but I’m leaning towards a tort guard I have.

Re: Jaguar Special HH MIJ
I'm not sure your tort guard will fit. MIJ jags font fit USA pickgusrd templates, a few things are off including the bridge hole placement and I believe the plates don't fit properly either. I have both USA and MIJ jags and the pickguards have not been remotely interchangeable. And that's for jags that have the normal bridge- this is a TOM on top of that.

Thanks, diving into the parts rabbit hole yet again! I’m actually making a pick guard today for another project, if it’s not too far off I may mod it to fit.
