Stagg Jazzmaster Body Measures?

Post by idropinus » Thu Jun 25, 2020 8:18 am

Hello everyone,

I have some original Fender Jazzmaster spare parts at home, and i wanted to put them in a new Jazzmaster project.

I'm looking for a body, and someone is trying to sell me a Stagg Jazzmaster ( exactly like this one:https://reverb.com/ca/item/28499894-sta ... IuQnoti5LI).

Does anyone know if the original Jazzmaster parts are going to fit on this body? Are measures the same? (apart, obviously, from the pickups. I'm just talking about the overall measures of the body).

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't think so. It's a Strat-meets-Jagmaster, basically, and even if you were able to rout out the body for a JM tremolo a) I'm not sure the body would be deep enough, and b) you'd have a big hole to deal with where the strat-type trem is currently. You'd be better off leaving it as it is, or going for some sort of Jaguar-type pickup array (I think the body is probably swimming pool routed under the scratchplate).

Given that a Stagg is on your radar I'm guessing you're in the UK, yes? Guitar Build UK sometimes sell seconds on eBay, which would allow you to choose your own finish, and drop the parts you have right in, but you'll probably end up spending as much as you would on a Squier JM putting it all together, so you might be better off just looking for one of those second-hand instead.

oh oh oh ask me ask me.

NO. no they wont.

so the stagg ones are based on the fernandez shape. the bodies are way smaller (about 10-15%) my friend has one of these as do i (kinda) and the parts rarely fit.

saying that. they're great mod platforms here is my friends (which is actually now mine when she finally drops it off)

MJT has an eBay site and sell finished jazzmaster bodies by auction. I screwed one together and standard parts fit and the price was right. You need some skills but not too many.

Word of warning - Staggs are a common brand over here in the UK (maybe not a well known brand for you guys?) and that price seems crazy high for the quality. Over here they are bottom tier guitars with worse quality than even the cheapest squier. I'd be wary of paying anything like that price for it.

The OP said it was like the Reverb one, not that actual one, but yeah, I'd expect to pay less than £100 (far less, actually) if I was in the market for one.
