Re: Squier 2020 line
FEDEX IS A SHIT SHOW.
Ordered direct from fender rep 2 saturdays ago now, left fender on monday and sat in california for 5 days until Friday. On friday they went to arizona, then to new mexico, then kansas, then rural Illinois, now they are sitting in Chicago. I'm assuming it will take another 4 days to get to Buffalo. I could swim Lake Erie by then.

Re: Squier 2020 line
I got my Supersonic last week and I've had a ton of fun getting used to it. I got the graphite version and I really like that finish as opposed to the blue, it's got a decent amount of sparkle and looks almost purple in some lights. The neck is thin, and with the narrow nut and short scale there's a mental adjustment needed to not overshoot fretting stuff I'm used to playing on other guitars. It does also come in handy with things that are normally a little out of my reach though.
The pickups are pretty meh as most people have noted. It's hard to imagine a case where I'd want to use it clean but the overall hotness/darkness of the bridge along with the reverse slant makes it fun with lots of gain. I haven't gotten a chance to really crank it so I'm not sure about whether or not it'll feedback at band volume but I really hope not. Overall it's definitely a good change of pace guitar but not super versatile compared to a Jag/Jazzmaster. One of the first Youtube reviews of it compared it (favorably I think) to a speedboat, which I found pretty accurate.

I've been waiting for my work to get these in so I can use my employee discount. We finally got a shipment today. We had 3 more Supersonics than preorders so I'm hoping my order gets processed before 3 people order one, as "real" customers take precedent. We are not allowed to preorder which really sucks.

For those interested in the Offset Telecaster (why not "Jazzcaster"? ), Trogly opened one up, there's room for some mods:

Cool, so Tele Custom and Nashville Tele options are on the table with nothing more than a new pickguard.

Re: Squier 2020 line
Yeah been considering. But MusicStore is here in Cologne so I could try it out and take it to the counter. Having bought many stuff there already, they usually apply an over the counter discount (believe it or not!), and/or I do have a €10 discount coupon.
For some reason, I've never bought from Thomann. But now I would... have.
The SFS Tele was listed to arrive this week... and now it says "preorder" again. Oh well. I'll hit the BIN where I see it first.

Re: Squier 2020 line
Fender was going to name the Alternate Reality Sixty-Six the Jazzcaster. They even goofed and posted this photo on the model's Fender.com page when it were first released. I imagine they'll hold on to "Jazzcaster" for some wacky Fender model. Also "Offset Telecaster" has been in the marketing pipeline since the American Standard LE model in 2016.

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Never thought I'd think of a purple guitar that way - but it's damn lovely!

Re: Squier 2020 line
Got mine in and got a chance to play around with it for a couple minutes. The bridge pickup has your typical nasally bridge humbucker sound, but I'm a neck pickup guy anyway. The neck is big, bold and punchy. I'll be able to get a lot of use out of that pickup.
Full sized pots, full trem block as seen in the above videos. I'm 50/50 on whether I'll keep the nut or install a bone nut. I put a spring and ball bearing in the trem arm.
This weekend I'll have time to put heavy flatwounds on it and set it up the way I like it, including floating the bridge. It came decked with these wimpy 9s.
I have a "special" tuning that I capo on the 6th fret for a couple of songs in my band. My plan is to tune this up a whole step and then capo on the 4th. Then I can just leave this guitar in that tuning. We'll see.
If anyone is wondering, it takes a little cajoling, but the Supersonic will fit in this gig bag:

My only real nit-pick is the blue is not as metallic/sparkly as the charcoal, and I prefer the tinted necks to the untinted. But those aren't big deals at all.

Re: Squier 2020 line
Oh, and I take back what I said a few pages back about the Indian laurel. This fingerboard is very nice with color variations and tight grain. Much improved over the knotty/wide grained fingerboards on the Squiers I tested after they first started using laurel.
