Swervedriver, my god. I can't recall ever having heard them and thinking there was anything interesting going on with the guitars at all.
Personally, Raise is one of my favourite guitar albums. Mezcal has its moments too. But if you’ve started with Ejector / 99th Dream and not gone back I could imagine you thinking the hype was hype.

The Cure are another that I think of in relation to this sort of thing. Simple individual parts intertwined to create a more complex whole melody.
That was the appeal of Siouxsie & the Banshees for me.
Hadn't really considered The Cure, but yes, I think they fit the bill on quite a few of their songs.

i wanna bring up 1 q and not u song because i ended up doing something similar with the call and response guitar parts they did in this song.

but speaking of dischord records. i'm also going to say guy and ian from fugazi would have some great interplay. bed for the scraping comes to mind instantly but so do songs like smallpox champion and last chance for a slow dance. here is an example. slackervk on here playing both parts

Absolutely unequivocally Big Country for me. Stuart and Bruce had some incredible sounding interlocking parts, and then you bring Tony into the mix too on the bass and you got some really crazy stuff that just sounds like no one else.

Arpeggiator would also qualify. And Epic Problem. The list goes on...

dont remind me of arpeggiator, i think i nearly broke my wrist trying to play it at the live speed....... it's one of the few fugazi songs where the bassline is easier than the guitar part.

Big Rodan/Shipping News fan. Never could get into June of 44 for some reason though. I saw Shipping News in the mid 00s once and they spent more time tuning than playing songs (not even remotely joking). I think I watched their set for close to an hour or slightly longer and they only got through 4 songs. This was after they took an eternity to set up. They did sound really fucking great though.

Blonde Redhead although not as much lately as its gone in a less guitar focussed way on more recent records.

Kazu and Amedeo sort of criss cross back and forth with their guitar lines always super in the pocket with the drums.
