pocket operator!

Post by MKR » Mon Mar 23, 2020 9:12 am

Last week I decided I needed to buy a cheap drum machine. YouTube sent me down a rabbithole which ended up at pocket operator 12. pretty quick after that I came across a video for the pocket operator 33 KO which is what I decided I had to own.

Got one the next morning and holy shit I can't recommend these enough!

I have zero experience with samplers and very limited experience using electronic music devices. but already after a few days of getting familiar with it I have made a pretty cool sounding rhythm pattern. I have only scratched the surface and I can tell there's so much this little thing can do.

with corona virus most of us have had a massive change to our everyday lifestyle. it occurred to me pretty early on that it would be good for my mental health to tackle a new hobby or give myself a new fun challenge. This pocket operator is proving to be just what the doctor ordered.

Anyone else on here tinker with pocket operators? not just the 33, but any of them? I'm digging mine so much that I might pick up another.

I had a few, but am down to one only. I kept the bit-crushing one (PO-20 Arcade I believe), and sold the others. They are VERY cool and very flexible. I had an idea to have a case made so you could have 3 of them in a hard shell, instead of all separate, but didn't pursue that once I decided to sell a couple.

I got the PO-12 a few weeks ago, It's a pretty simple drum machine, but I got it just to help write songs and play along with, having the inbuilt speaker is really handy for that.

I wish the sequencing was a bit more in depth though, knowing teenage engineering it might be and I haven't figured it out yet.

They are pretty cool but trying to program a melody is like musical etch-a-sketch. The sample one still inrigues me with it's built in mic.

Get a case. I'm really careful with my stuff so I thought I would be fine without one, but my po-arcade fell about 2 inches and stopped working. I think I may need to just bend the battery clip back, but still.
