NGD: Shell pink thin skin JM

Post by Loobster » Wed Mar 25, 2020 5:09 am

Hey guys, just took delivery of this, a shell pink thin skin '62 RI JM.

Also has the Mastery bridge and vibrato and a set of +5% Fralins. Sounds and looks super! Action is a bit high from the 9th fret up - would a shim there be wise?

Here are a couple of pictures, hope they work:

Man, I'm a pure metallic guy - I love metallics, {family group shot incoming}... but Shell Pink matching headstock Jazzmaster is something I've always wanted. It would just stand out against my stuff!

I think Shell Pink looks best on Jazzmasters and Jaguars. Beautiful man. Totally jealous. The neck/grain looks exceptional.

Also - I've been to Berlin recently, and all around Germany! Love your country.

It's a sweetheart. I just got a Surf Green MIM 60s JM with matching headstock. The two guitars would make quite the preppy pair.

I'm trying very hard not to get carried away with GAS (guitar/gear acquisition syndrome) but I've already got a Jaguar and a Jazzmaster. Two years ago I didn't have either.

Unfortunately once you start playing a particular instrument extensively you start to make a mental list of likes/dislikes whether you want to or not, from finish (especially the feel on the neck and under the right arm) to neck shape to fret size/shape to pickups.

I really do wish that playability wasn't so closely tied to the cost of a guitar especially without heroic and extensive measures taken to make lower-end guitars into players (replacing all manner of parts) but as a general rule if you want something to be the least problematic then you need to pony up the cash. I know there are plenty of 'My Squier is ace' exceptions but I've got 15 guitars in the closet and there are few if any exceptions to the rule.

The point of all this is I know the Thin Skins or some other higher-end JM will ultimately tempt me. I wish I didn't have a wandering eye but I do.

Oh yeah, that’s a beauty. I have been cruising for one of those or the FSR Classic Player in shell pink for awhile now and thought I’d eventually have to spend the big bucks for one. Awesome you picked one up. I’m looking forward this summer to picking up one of the pink Squier VMJM’s and hotrodding it.

That's an El Dorado that was a birthday present from my mum when I was a teenager.

Thanks for all the kind comments, guys. After a week of playing it, I'm really in love, but it definitely needs the neck shimmed to get the action down higher up the neck and raise the bridge, right now it's screwed down as far as possible to the body. I think once that's done, it will be far more playable.

It sounds and looks as cool as anything, though!

Cheers.
