Re: Yamaha SG2 replica build
I can only imagine how awesome it sounds - but in any case: congratulations on a great job reviving the spirit of an iconic (and for me the sexiest) guitar design I have become aware of! I love your work (and the SG2/SG3). I like the way you modified the design of the Jag PUps...
My SG3 I bought from theworkoffire is coral red which I liked best - But your sunburst is a serious challenger! While I usually find a regular sunburst or black body/white guard a bit boring, I like that sunsetburst/eclipseburst of yours... Combined with the shape, It's a bit of a Batman version of the Bruce Wayne sunburst... You might have created some great new style here !

That looks gooooood! I like the burst with a bit more black around it than some. Cool, cool, cool.

.
That does look nice!
Post your TT video reveal of it. First picture near the top of the post with the Alice In Wonderland checkerboard tile floor I knew where the thread was headed
Do you have pictures of the underside and workings of the original trems? In the video you mentioned needle bearings.

Re: Yamaha SG2 replica build
I don't have any pics of an original trem. I misspoke in the video - it has cartridge ball bearings. Don't know why I said needle bearings.jvin248 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 11:38 am

It's such a better looking guitar than the Jaguar/Jazzmaster. So elegant!

That turned out really fantastic. I'm seriously jealous, a Yamaha SG2/3 is on my short list of guitar needs.

Re: Yamaha SG2 replica build
Looks amazing. Saw your video on this on the Texas Toast youtube and I think you mentioned the tremolo has some roller bearings in there, I'm assuming they are to replace the knife edge pivot thingy on the Fender offset trem system. Would you happen to have any gut shots of the Yamaha tremolo unit? The thought of having bearings in there sounds super cool and I imagine it would make the tremolo even more floaty than that style is. Probably wouldn't be too hard to fabricate one in that style.

Re: Yamaha SG2 replica build
AFAIK, It's not a roller vibrato, but a roller bridge (substituting the round saddles with rolling saddles for better string movement), and I'd be surprised if these small guys were roller bearings (I'd say they friction bearings, but I'd have too take a closer look).

The trem should be similar to a JM/Jag, which makes those sound so similar in character (even though it has an own sound).
And yes, they do look and sound amazing, and I really do not understand why Yamaha does not reissue them...

Re: Yamaha SG2 replica build
the big difference between yamaha trem and jazzmaster trem is here the bearing instead of the knife for pivot , also the cover who is only for visual in yamaha trem instead the jazzmaster who have the knife fix on it(yamaha one is harder to make the routing than the jazz one )

Re: Yamaha SG2 replica build
OK, then sorry for the misinformation on my side - I thought it was a misunderstanding, and while I have an SG-3, I have not yet opened her up, yet - great to know, though.
