On my workbench right now is... a workbench! Building a simple but chunky bench following this Modern Builds video. I've had a nice big vice sitting on a shelf for a while and I'm very excited that I'll soon have something solid to mount it to.

Currently it mostly looks like a pile of 2x4s, but it should start looking benchier very soon! Here are the legs pre-glue-up, and half of the top mid-glue-up.

Very nice! That top will be good and solid. A good vice needs a bench that won't move to mount to. You can do any kind of work on one like that.

Hello friends! I have a question that is not worthy of its own thread, so here it goes: if you finish (even with oil) a roasted maple neck, it darkens it; but I'd like to dye it (black) for an even more dramatic effect. But will the dye wear off with playing the neck? The choice of roasted maple is not innocent: I usually dislike maple fretboards because they need to be finished, with a roasted one I don't have to. But then, what about the dye? I'm fearing I'd have to seal it somehow.

Yes you would have to seal it in.

A thin coat of wipe on poly or shellac would be enough.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I thought a number of people might be interested. I was just searching for some cabling and connectors to make a few new cables (for bass and synth specifically), and found this awesome connector. Kinda like the old-style pancake jack, but it looks like it might be just a little bit slimmer.

EDIT: I've never made any cables for synths before. I feel like maybe it was suggested by someone here, but maybe I found this on my own. It's basically 2 resistors wired in parallel/series-parallel inside the cable to protect the pedals a little bit. Has anyone ever done this before?

Also, for guitar and bass, I usually use Mogami 2524 (unbalanced) bulk cable. Would unbalanced still be the choice for a synth?

I'm new around here, but have been lurking without an account for months now. You have no idea how much you guys have already helped me on my two simultaneous builds (one of which is my first ever).

Anyway, I'm getting close on one of the guitars and figured I'd share a pic. It's a Lomic Guitars Jaguar body w/ HSS GFS gold foil pickups, Varitone switch, killswitch, coil split, and Duesenberg Multibender bridge:

S-l-o-w-l-y closing in on having a finished guitar... side binding and jack plate are done. I've kind of painted myself into a corner- there's just too much plain white going on with the side binding, so I've been trying different things with black paint and Wandre-style smoke to make it not annoying, looks like I'll be doing something zebra-like to quite literally paint myself out of the corner (I'm now wanted for murder by the metaphor police )

The back, with more of the alligator vinyl (there will also be a white back with a slightly different layout of the same vinyl)

Gut shot- the back is held on magnetically, and neck bolts/ truss rod/ pickup adjust/ trem adjust/ string change are all accessed from inside (still lots of tidying/ shielding to do):
