Loathe - Dual Bass VI's

Post by stilwel » Fri Jan 24, 2020 7:39 am

The most aggro use of a pair of Bass VI's and a P-Bass that I've ever heard.

At times both beautiful and brutal AF.
I’ve never heard anything like this.

I kinda like it. It's definitely different :w00t: :w00t:

Yeah, it's definitely not my typical thing, but there's something appealing about it.
They have a new album coming out on 2/7. I'm hoping to hear more of the heavy shoegaze thing similar to Two-Way Mirror.

The ultra-heavy extreme stuff is interesting, and obviously requires a lot of skill to play, but I can only handle so much of that.

I do find it very interesting that they are pulling this all off without any "guitars".

Sounds like Deftones so much. Deftones are one of my favorite bands so I like this. ;) Haven't heard of this group either so thanks!

Ok listened to both of the songs and they sound exactly like the Deftones. . :wtf:

It's weird because I've never heard anyone come close to the Deftones sound.

I love Deftones. Particularly White Pony and Saturday Night Wrist.

I think Loathe is heavier and more extreme with the vocals and overall heaviness.

Again I like that they can do both, but I hope to hear more of the dense melodic stuff vs ultra heavy. I feel the same way about Deftones. I prefer the Chino songs.

Yea you’re right. I’m not crazy about the extreme vocals in these songs.
I love the Deftones dense melodic stuff.
I’m thinking it’s a little to close to Deftones though. Not sure how I feel about that.
Actually makes me want to listen to Deftones more now.

Gave these guys a listen and I'm pretty psyched to hear the complete album. I play a Bass VI a lot of the time, and it's actually pretty damn tricky to arrangement it with a normal bass without the mix turning to mud, so good on these guys for finding a way forward. I've gotten more and more into heavy music over the last few years, and am a big fan when bands pair it with actual vocals rather than stupid metal cookie monster shit. The biggest hurdle for me with Deafheaven was the shrieking vocals that just distracted from everything else that was going on, but to each their own. I used to be fine with Henry Rollins screaming "my waaaaaaarrrr" so maybe it's just me.

All things in moderation...

Agreed about Deafheaven. The shrieking blackmetal vocals are a bit much for my sensibilities.

Have you guys given Spotlights a listen? Self-described as Sludge-gaze. I'll create a new post at lunchtime with some links.

Thread resurrection...

Loathe popped out a new album in Feb of 2021.
They went a very different direction on this one. :derp:

Obviously not a 'typical' album for them. But I dig.

If you're into Stranger Things soundtrack type stuff, this will be your jam.
