Re: Song of the Day Thread
Ghosts of Dance - Day like I've never Seen I was ultra hyped when I saw Dark Entries had secured the rights to a whole bunch of Ghosts of Dance I never even knew existed having only been aware of one seven. I must say the unreleased material often surpasses the two tracks I know and I adore their bright as a button Post Punk that beautifully sits in a nice a most proggy velvet lined pocket betwixt Joy Division, OMD and sporting a vocal style that draws on that messthetic head girl style a la Maximum joy, Raincoats, Au Pairs etc.
Ghosts of Dance - Till I Wake
Der Blaue Reiter - Through Glasses original version. A few years ago Dead Wax Records put out a really excellent full discography record 'Epitaph' covering the unreleased recordings of Der Blaue Reiter an Italian Cold Wave band, I really liked the record, ever if it does sound like that band or even that song by that band in this case. Anyway fast forward to late 2019 and DWR put out Epitaph Revisited which was Stefano Tirone's pretty interesting re-imaging of his own songs, keeping his old vocals but replacing all the original music with a minimal wave treatment courtesy of his desirable squadron of classic synths.
Der Blaue Reiter - Through Glasses Epitaph revisited version.
Severed Heads - Charivari Incredible reissue I just could not resist even if I already own a copy. An amazing elpee, harsh as a Chinese burn or a sharp stick in your ear, no quarter asked or given. Classic.
Rose Mc Dowall - Make it Easy on Yourself There's a recent compilation collab between Bob Stanley and Tim Burgess imagining a sort of Uk based Twin Peaks diner playlist and...let me submit my suggestion. Tragically romantic, it makes you want to waltz forever with your sweet love.
Der Ambassande - Malefica Pass the Dutchie...for me this elpee was at least last camp before the summit of 2019. Frankly the way they flit from gloaming minimal wave to broken hipped garage exotica like this just astounds me and it was the record I gifted most this yule.
Der Ambassande - Verloren
The Utopia Strong - Moonchild This is a bloody brilliant elpee and not just for the novelty conversation drop when you tell listeners that the synths are in fact courtesy of Steve 'Interesting' Davis the 1980's world snooker champion. Steve's long been known for his love of prog but his sees him team up with Micheal York who played bagpipes with coil and a guy who plays in the Cardidacs and int he case of this track a stray Medieval Babe. One of the highlights of last year but weirdly slept on in all the end of years. As good as Snooker Loopy is bad.
The Utopia Strong - Konta Chorus
Borusiade - Mirror Hall (This Relief) utterly magnificat dark danse moves I got this with the new elpee pre order and I've just fallen for it cold seductive shadowbeat. I probably look like a bot promoting Dark Entries.
Antoni Maiovvi's Time Precinct - Stable Mirror OK this sounds like what it sounds like but that doesn't mean you can't dance round the parlor to it.
Double Mixte - Romance Noire like snorting glitte..goes straight to the pleasure centers with its stroboscopic french disko whorl and breathy Gallic speaky.
Stereo - Somewhere in the Night this is on my The Sound of (Citroen) SM Man mix I play in the SM which imagines (second or third owner) SM Man as cooler than he probably was cruising with his hot playmate some time in the early 80's. SM Man is a suave modernist but he's a louche and a little self deprecating with it hence his in car cassette player being filled with saucy wink cold continental synth pop. True story...I mentioned this to Lady Shadowplay as we cruised home from a concert last week fully expecting her to embrace the role of 'Hot Playmate' only to be told that 'god, your head is full of nonsense'.
Another sound of SM Man; Night Moves - Transdance.
Sixth June - Negde Neko First listen of this album kinda washed over me a bit but I like this with it's late 80's Kirlian Camera feel
Jon Hopkins & Kelly Lee Owens - Luminous Spaces beautiful starry spangled ambient techno.
Black Marble - Grey Eyeliner
oh and ...this is magic; Valentino | FKA Twigs Live Performance x

That was a welcome and lavish reissue.Straight6DOHC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 1:41 pmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1oGyxLtqok
