yeah it's the same amp. I prefer recording with smaller amps. I've had more success with peavey classic 30's and pro jr's than with ac30's especially dialing in my sound.
Everyone has their own goal when it comes to Sound but that sounds off.. Are you comparing USA to USA? Or USA to China? Or? Which AC30? What Speakers?
You're implying things but this is just an area where there really isn't any objectivity. If he likes the aforementioned amps and doesn't like AC30s as much, there's literally no way you can say he's wrong.

...is there even such thing as a made in USA AC30?

The point being, objectively that if you compare a big multiple speaker amp as AC30 vs. The peavey and pro jr as small single speaker....

Well they are totally different amps.
So objectively its not a direct comparison.

And admittedly i possibly come to the opposite conclusion as i had a single speaker ac30! But i also have a single speaker yamaha now for more direct comparison.

Admittedly ac30s take a lot more of the mic positioning. Almost every live sound engineer would have to stick it at the edge of the speaker. And i put a mic behind it usually to add depth.
They yamaha needs less dialing in but i find i NEED either a second mic near the edge or one behind, for rhythm sounds.

The effect of two is basically that you can point it at the cone and the off axis sound will come through in a kind of natural way.

So if you got whatever 5-10 ac30 vox variant, and then tried a Fender Bassman head, a huge amp... Maybe it would be the opposite. Just very different tones at the preamp really, and different speaker types.

+have always found diming out tube amps overrated. I prefer master volume turned down a considerable amount sometimes. Power tube and speaker distortion not for everyone.

my experiences with ac30's have all been shortlived, i had a head for the longest period one of the handwired fawn ones and it was rad but for recording it was too violent, really awesome for shows and practice though.
I had my best recording experiences with a pro jr tweed with a blue speaker and a 64 tremolux into a 1x15 cab
i have no idea why but those gave me solid results. I've also had great success with my 65 bandmaster with a master volume mod set at like 4 on the master
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

I've been around the block with amps so i'll bite, i owned a UK made fawn ac 30 with alnico blues for a while it was the BEST live amp i've ever owned hands down. I couldn't justify hanging onto it financially so i sold it off for a lot more than i spent on it. After that i had the made in china handwired fawn head which was also great but had a lot issues with tube sockets and numerous other rattles. I gigged with both of these a good bit, loved the volume and the body of the live sound, found them a little thin on recordings. I owned an ac15 uk made 90's amp that was really cool but never recorded with it, maybe that one was the answer.
The 64 tremolux i had though it was MAGIC, any guitar, any pedal sounded better through it
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

I was hanging out with Panoramic, and I got to hear this thing. It's good stuff.

The thing I like is... it does a really decent job of sounding like my AC15 when he wants it to. I wasn't expecting that.
