Arbor Day - Pink Content

Post by Danley » Sun Jan 19, 2020 7:23 pm

Went to the Orange County Guitar Show today; this was $75 on the last day, and I could already see the Seymour Duncan in it; also, that it was pink. :) So sold to me:

The good/bad/etc. :
  • Turns out the other two pickups are alnico! Possibly Fender Tex Mex, since they have identical bobbins (plastic.) 500k pots?
  • The neck is awesome; *quite* thick, glossy, nice and straight with a bullet truss adjust. Plays really nice, and VERY tight fit for what it’s worth
  • The Little 59 is a pretty awesome pickup; keeping it, probably
  • Plywood. Figured, oh well. Routed SSS, so no swimming pool but less versatility. Typical zinc hardware/diamond tuners, and some mis-spaced fretboard side-does round it out
TLDR, worth it for the neck, pickups and paint. Pics are pre-setup and pre-cleaning, eventually I plan on a mint guard and possible installation of my Rose SC set :D

Nice score. The little '59 and pair of miscellaneous alnico start pickups could easily cost $75 on their own, so at that point the rest of the guitar is gravy.

Looks like a fun little thing.

I almost hate to say it, but I’m bonding with this guitar pretty well - the switches/jack all seem beyond help though. Researching the company not a huge amt. comes up, only one I’ve found on Reverb/eBay like it. This might be an MIJ ‘G416’ model, ‘83 - ‘86 though the company was in business making slightly different Strat clones till recently. Looks like they covered the whole range of headless/flame maple shred guitars to beginner axes in the ‘80s.

Here are some other pics from the show, there had to be half a dozen Comp-Stangs among other things; enough other cool/pricey guitars to the point where I couldn’t take pics of every awesome offset. But maintained consciousness enough to take these:
