Normally I'd pick a Jag too, but I'm not too big on the CP models. The moved vibrato position and adjustomatic kills it for me somewhat. They do play well and sound good though.andy_tchp wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 3:03 pmAgreed. One of the most accurate vintage 'reissues' Fender has ever produced with incredible build quality.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 8:01 amThose 65RI Mustangs are great. They have decent pickups and proper cloth wiring throughout. Nice necks too.
And I'd still take the Jaguar.

I will also submit that if it was me, I would be getting the Jaguar.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I got the Jaguar. It’s a beauty. I’m in love. I’ll try to post photos soon.

You’ll continue to! Congrats! I would have recommended the Mustang, but the CP Jag probably will fit the style you play better since the pickups are hotter, and the other deviations from vintage spec are more rock oriented. Just remember with a Jag, the volume knob is your most helpful friend, those 1 meg pots have a lot of range.alcidebava wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 12:24 pmI got the Jaguar. It’s a beauty. I’m in love. The only thing seems to be the trem arm it came with. It doesn’t seem to screw in? Is that normal. I can just place it in and take it out even though it’s threaded. Do I have the wrong trem arm type?

Seems like you have the wrong arm, that one should just snap in and out.

Interesting, I thought the only screw in was for the AmPro, my mistake!

classic player offsets are awesome. I have gone through a lot of different fender offsets. 60s lacquer jag, a couple japanese mustangs, jagstang, japanese jazzmaster, squier mascis, squier VM.
The only one that i kept and pretty much the only guitar i know i will take with me to the grave is my classic player jazzmaster. That guitar is perfect in EVERY way. Have owned it for years and it has never failed me and i never get tired of it.
I did also own a classic player jaguar and i moved on from that one thinking that the "higher end" models or what i per-conceived as higher end would be better. I was wrong.

I agree and find it odd that the CP Jag is seen as a bit second rate. I think its the non-vintage thing that causes the prejudice but, having said that, no-one really moans about the anniversary Jags which are very similar indeed. In the long run, I think it'll be seen as an absolute classic... no pun intended!

I just feel good and connect with this guitar. I'm happy with the price I bought it for, $500, with how it feels, plays and sounds. This is a solid instrument and I'm going to keep upgrading it little by little. Next up is some Gotoh tuners and then pickups.
These Special Hot Jaguar pickups for MIM Fenders, are they regarded generally well?
Would Antiquity IIs be an obvious and worthy upgrade in the near future?

Antiquity II’s rule! Before you switch them out though, take an assessment of how the Jag works with your rig and what would make the best improvements. If you’re using the pickup to drive your amp, for example, the Antiquities won't do that. I’m not particularly a fan of hot pickups generally, but that doesn’t mean they’re bad, they just don't work for me. What is your setup currently?alcidebava wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 9:00 pmI just feel good and connect with this guitar. Re: MIM Fender Jaguar vs MIJ Fender Mustang
I’ll be playing my Jaguar through a Deluxe Reverb. I have a Boss Distortion pedal and a few EHX pedals. It’s hard for me to say what guitar tone I’m searching for because while I play sort of 60s inspired pop rock, lately I’m kind of into the Thurston Moore noise rock stuff, Pixies, Stooges, stuff like that. I love surf and Beach Boys and classic Jag sounds, but I’m looking to go towards a harder 70s-80s punk/garage rock direction with my band. Some will say I should’ve gotten a Les Paul, but I just wanted that Jaguar. I think it sounds sweet as is rn but again, I love this guitar and am willing to do whatever’s needed to bring it to maximum utility and playability.
