Electric Mistress fans?

Post by stevejamsecono » Sun Dec 29, 2019 6:53 am

I've been chasing the Mistress sound forever and have had a few that I didn't totally bond with (big box Deluxe, Mooer Elec Lady, etc.). There's been a few recent clones of it that have had me sniffing back around it again (Retrosonic Flanger, Thorpy Camoflange). Might grab one of 'em to give it a go again.

Any fans of the Mistress? I know the V2 18v ones are considered the grail but I don't really want to deal with unobtanium pricing or fragility. Totally respect the originals of course.

I can't really help here, but I'm definetely interested too.

Have you considered a Hartman Analog Flanger? Not longer made, so must be a used one, but it appears to be a real clone of the 18v, without the noise and volume drop issues.

The two clones you mentionned look very interesting too.

The Hartman is still pretty large and probably wouldn't fit on my board, tbh. I've heard good things, though.

Played this in a shop the other day and on first impression it sounded great!

I am also interested in a EM pedal. I had the EM Deluxe big box with the 3 prong chord for a long time and I loved it but I sold it due to the size and my space requirements at the time. Looking back this is one of my few gear selling regrets. Does anyone have any experience with the XO? Is it close to the big box versions?

I haven't seen any of the new XOs in person yet, but I'm certainly curious about them. Not a lot of reviews really out there on it and the ones that do exist are um... sort of incompetent and focus on the crazier/less musical sounds that it can do.

I have the XO green version and I love it. There's no volume drop and it's very lush. To my ears it's a bit like a small clone on steroids.

This is not a great video, but I use this pedal exactly like he does in the first half of the video.

I'd really like to try one at some point. I'm trying to not rely on youtube videos for pedals and so forth as much since it's rarely resulted in me keeping anything.

I've heard a clip or two and this pretty much nails the EM you'd want:

LongAmp Roxanne - copy of EHX Electric Mistress (MN3007) / Hartman Analog Flanger

And it looks hella cool.

Ah yes! I forgot about those. Those too.

Also love the enclosure on this one even though I'd definitely never pay for it:

I always feel guilty for liking the repurposed Klon enclosure because I feel bad for Bill Finnegan, but damn it's so great.

I think Foxgear is one of the companies that resulted from the split of Gurus Amp, if I recall correctly. They have their production line in China, so not exactly a "boutique" product, but great designs I believe. Not sure they have a dealer in Belgium, but if so I'll give it a try and report back.
