I could be wrong, but I believe that Sune from The Raveonettes uses a Jazzmaster into a Boss fuzz (FZ-2?) straight into the board. Obviously, he's probably doing it at a studio with a ridiculously expensive board, but still.
You're not wrong.
Except for maybe the pedal. He uses whatever suits the sound he wants, but a main piece on his board, is a RAT. But there have been fuzz factories, geiger counters, and various other trippy things on there.
The first Raveonettes album where done in a studio with an old Neve 10 channel thing, but a lot of the things after have been done with a 500 series preamp, some Neve clones, some other things, whatever he thinks sounds good in his studio.
That's awesome. They've got such a good sound, and I remember being a bit surprised when I read that he didn't use amps for some of those sounds.

Sometimes it can be just what is needed for dreampop sounds. When there's no distortion in sight, and just some stacked verbs and delays.
Mainly because it then gets the intended stereo image without the bi-amp complications.
Although i suppose you can use the pedal as an outboard for a micced sound, or find a plugin that does the job.
It can give a much more synthetic, purer image of the verb-as-instrument.
I've got a passive splitter at home. I might give that a try.

The vast majority of bass and guitar recorded by the Funk Brothers during Motown's heyday was straight in through a DI. I figure if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. :)
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

You and me both, Todd. James Jamerson might be my favorite bassist of all-time.

I’ve been using a Radial Bones Twin City ABY splitter for my direct recording lately. One side goes straight to the Focusrite interface, and the other side goes through my pedals and to a Baggs DI box, then to the Focusrite’s other channel. It’s been working well for most things, but I’m not playing heavily distorted rock music.

Yeah for demoing songs at home, but I put an amp sim pedal at the end of my chain then into a DI before hitting the preamp input. I use the JOYO american sound amp sim. Tried a bunch but this one sounds the best to me. :)
a reverb into the joyo american is very nearly as nice as a real amp

Middle pick up on jazzy through the board into a focusrite Scarlett 18i8 into Logic sounds pretty damn good 90 percent of the time.

Only pedal that sounds like ass DI’d is the v5 big muff but I think that has to do more with the pre’s on the Scarlett then the rig.
