I couldn't find any Electric XII wiring diagrams using modern rotary switches that had an out of phase position. They all seem to have series instead. I can't see much benefit to putting two humbuckers in series and think that OOP will provide a more distinct, usable option. So, I had to come up with my own scheme using an Alpha rotary switch.

Hell, the best Fender could come up with was "XII".
Actually, the prototype name was Matador but Fender settled on Electric XII.

The story is in the Fender Golden Years book.

That's a cool way to wire it. If going rotary, that would be the way I'd do it.

The final piece for my 12 string project arrived yesterday.

I decided to 3D print a custom bridge base for this. It uses the shape of the Toronado bridge, the mounting screw locations of the stock bridge, and the saddle mounting vertical element from the Gotoh bridge. I used one long open slot for the string through holes - so I wouldn't have to fiddle with getting the alignment perfect.

Everything is installed now and I'll be spending the next few days tuning. Pics to come!

How did you go about 3d printing with metal?
Is it aluminium or something else?
I wonder if you could 3d print a guitar neck...

Some of the online 3D printing services offer metal as an option.
This is a mix of stainless steel & bronze that has been nickel plated.
Here's more info, if you're interested.

Great looking bridge, it's incredible what we can do nowadays... if you can think it, you can do it. Awesome job, Sir.
Thanks a lot for sharing.

I've been neglecting to take photos of some of my recent projects. I've been occupied by house painting, fences, and summertime shenanigans. Anyway, I had an opportunity to get some pics today, so it's time to dump them all on here.

First up, the Mustang has been done for awhile. It has an Am. Pro bridge and vintage vibrato.

All of my short scales:

The XII string too:

Finally, this thing. I have no idea what to call this, but I'm really glad I ended up finishing it up. The two pickups were out of phase, but I liked the sound in the particular guitar. Since I had plenty of space, I added in a phase slide switch. I got some clear knobs and found the metal toggle tip in my parts box. I'm really liking having a dedicated Open C guitar and this body is really comfortable. It is a little neck heavy though, so if I ever make more, I'll need to start with some pretty heavy blanks.

The mahogany Talman body is just hanging out. I put a few applications of natural Danish Oil on and will likely just do a few coats of water based wipe on poly and call it good. I've decided that the issue I ran into with the neck build is not something I can fix. I will keep it around to use for practicing the back carve when I attempt a neck build again. I'll just purchase a neck for this project I suppose.

Something I've been thinking about recently is a build using the Rosser Powercaster body. With the options that Rosser lets you select, I think this body style could be a good platform for an offset telecaster. Here's my rough mockup of what I'm currently thinking of:

Well, the mongrel Talman reissue that I started modding two and a half years ago, is finally taking on it's final form.

Previous versions:

I started the process of refinishing it this weekend. The plan was for something like an aged Inca Silver from Dupli-color. I spent a few minutes in the auto parts store comparing nearly two dozen different silver paints, before selecting Bright Silver Metallic (Chrysler). I chose this one because it was a good medium tone (not too light, not too dark), was warmer rather than cooler (a cool silver would look odd to me with the heavy neck tint), and had the most metallic appearance.

No pics of it on the body at the moment, but here it is on a car:

And this tele in aged Inca is pretty close in color, while having a less metallic appearance.

The color is on the body already and it looks really nice, with a ton of metal specs in it. I have a sheet of aged pearl pickguard material on the way. Also, I did re-route the body for the Jazzmaster trem conversion plates that I had laser cut from stainless steel.

Clear coats will be slowly applied over the next few weeks as my schedule allows.

I'm looking forward to that all completed. I like Inca Silver and variants of it. This should be the best incarnation of it yet.

I put a coat of clear on this morning before work and grabbed a pic while I was at it.

I've been keeping a low profile lately, working my day job, building a fence, watching college football, and whatnot. Meanwhile though, I kept applying clear to the Talman refinish. It's going to be hanging in the basement for the next month or so. I couldn't resist a quick preview though.
