JMJM Neck Profile
Hey Guys,
I'm looking to spec a neck from Musickraft for my upcoming Jagstang 2.0 project.
I've completely fallen in love with the profile of my JMJM can anyone help me spec this neck? so I can order
one the same but obvs Jag scale.
I've looked at Musickraft but I'm completely lost in the profile selection and nut width

Here's the profile chart from Musickraft http://79dbae061dacae723a04-5800ec8c949 ... com/mk.pdf
I'm thinking the Med C-1 83 90 might be close match but thats just eyeballing it aha

Will be watching this thread. Interested to see what the consensus is here about what it would translate to for Musikraft shapes. I've dreamt about a JMJM neck with dots and binding...

Re: JMJM Neck Profile
I just measured the thickness of one of my JMJMs and it's ~.78 at the first fret and ~.98 at the heel. Honestly, there's something else to the neck because it doesn't feel thin, yet that's what Musikraft calls a "Thin C". Could be the width? The shape?
For what it's worth, it's ~1.69 width at the first fret and 2.16 width at the last fret.

Thanks for the measurements you're a star
I agree the more I look at and play the neck the more I'm leaning towards it actually being a very soft V (At the first few frets anyways)

0.78"? That's like a shredder neck thin, then tapers to a nice baseball-ish proportion, not very common.alexpigment wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 6:45 pmI just measured the thickness of one of my JMJMs and it's ~.78 at the first fret and ~.98 at the heel. I think my JMJM neck was 0.84 at the first fret, 0.94" at the 12th. It's a lot wider than usual at the nut. The neck wasn't technically a 'fat' neck, but it felt great, so I hear you about 'something else' to it. The frets are huge, I hated them at first then I realized I was being a picky and just played the thing :-)

I like large frets - the only complaint I have about them is slides can become a bit trickier, but everything else is pulled off with more ease. What is the typical complaint?
I never thought the Mascis felt like a V-neck, but I might need to pay better attention.

Yeah, I don't really notice the V either, but I will say there's something nice about how the shoulders of the neck are rounded. For what it's worth, I briefly owned a Classic Vibe Custom Tele that I eventually sold because the sides of the fretboard were uncomfortable in my hand. Something to do with the curve of the neck and the sharpness of the fretboard itself. The Mascis, by contrast, has the perfect roundness. It's not rolled edges, per se, but again, *there's something going on there*
When I get around to it, I'm going to double check my measurements with the two Squier Deluxes I own and see if they are the same - I just had the Mascis by my computer at the time. The necks should be identical in theory, but there could be variances from one guitar to the next.

.
Widths and thicknesses are only part of the equation. The big sticker is how they carve the rear shoulders.
Example is find a Squier Strat and the carve really starts from the front face of the fretboard and cuts back at an acute angle., meanwhile a MIM/MIA neck doesn't start carving until behind the fretboard glue line so the sides of the neck have flats and a lot more wood in the rear shoulders -- making the circumference larger.
Might do best to start by measuring the circumference all the way around at the first fret and compare that. The circumference will include the fret height -- that's what your hand feels when playing.

I like thin necks but wide shoulders. Guess I basically want a Nagel print as a neck.
