Les Paul Fender Mashup Finished Pg.2

Post by HNB » Mon Jul 22, 2019 3:39 pm

Rosser guitars made me an ash Les Paul sort of body. I asked him to add contours, make it set up for a Fender hardtail bridge and a 51 P Bass control plate. I picked up a Starcaster neck pretty cheap that had nice tuners and a good aged amber color and painted the headstock so far. Here is what I have so far. ;)

So then I did this. :)

Pretty pleased with it so far. :D

Is that black dye? I love that you can clearly see the grain!

Black spray paint. I did grey primer first. Since I didn't fill the grain you can see it really well. I thought the grain was really nice and would just let it show.

I got the tape off the neck/headstock. I will clean up the edge with some fine sandpaper tomorrow and let it cure for a week before I start putting clear on. I need to work on a decal still.

Thanks! First time trying it. I always try to avoid paint run so doing on purpose was a new experience. LOL

The control cavity was too small to fit the control plate guts so I used my drill and router to open it a bit. I also test fit the pickups and rings. Seems like those will be fine.

You could fill the grain in a contrasting color and make it really pop.

I lightly sprayed my pickup rings with white. I think it should work well with the body. :)

I sprayed some satin deft over my minwax poly on the headstock and it had a weird reaction. It crackled up. Works for this project and is a cool texture, but really strange. Never had that happen before. :)
