Everyone is welcome to the party!': the B-52s on 40 years of new wave

The band’s singer Kate Pierson talks about the joy and tragedy behind her favourite songs of their back catalogue, from Rock Lobster to Love Shack

To be honest I died a little inside at her song choices but heyho it's
her band.

I met Fred Schneider very briefly at a restaurant I was working at. I didn't want to bug him since he was having a drink with his friends but I did shake his hand quickly and said I was a fan.

He's a very tall man, I'm an even six feet and he's considerably taller than I am.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I'm reading Johnny Marr's autobiography currently, and he talks about seeing the B-52s and right then and there deciding that he needed a beehive hairdo. I love the man,but he was a bit of a nutter.

I loved the B-52's starting when I was in middle school. I would love to cover "Legal Tender." Even their straightforward stuff was really strange. Until Ricky died and then I was glad to see them get rich but it wasn't the same. They're the only band without a bass player that I like. And they got a bass player, and they started doing wedding music. I saw the Fred Schneider band at an HFStival and they were tight.

the recent remaster of Cosmic Thing is really really good. Brings new life to all those songs. Cracking album for sure. <3
