Re: ThePearDream's Talman Projects
Doug's Talman body came back from getting finished today. Here's some mock-up pics. The green turned out to be even cooler than I was hoping. Now for some really serious wiring.

It's like a cartoon version of a Fender. I dig it.

Re: ThePearDream's Talman Projects
...and 10 billion years later, this guitar is finally finished. Many thanks to Doug for the body, pickguard, and 3D designs for the pickup covers and the control plate. He's such an amazing craftsman, artist and generally great person. Also a huge thank you to Shadoweclipse who provided the wiring diagram in an epic PM convo titled "Possibly insane schematic help request".
The aesthetics of this guitar are just perfect to me. My only beef with the electronics is that the blend knobs don't work quite as well as I envisioned. They have a similar effect as a volume knob where one pickup's volume rolls-off quickly before the other pickup's volume ramps-up much. Other than that, it's pretty cool.
Here's the final product:
And here's the wiring diagram from Shadoweclipse and what all the switches and knobs do. The pick-ups are a GFS strat goldfoil, two creamery strat pickups and one creamery strat p-90.
3-way toggle – Switches between the neck pickup cluster, the bridge pickup cluster and running both (in parallel, series or out of phase based on the control plate 3-way slider, see below)
“Neck pickup” 3-way slider – Bright, Normal, Dark EQ
“Bridge pickup” 3-way slider – Bright, Normal, Dark EQ
Control plate 2-way slider – Series-parallel
Blender knob 1 – Blends between the two neck pickups. All the way left is 100% lower pickup, all the way right is 100% upper pickup, in the middle is 50-50 of each
Blender knob 2 – Blends between the two bridge pickups. All the way left is 100% lower pickup, all the way right is 100% upper pickup, in the middle is 50-50 of each
Master volume knob

Re: ThePearDream's Talman Projects
Mike, this turned out fantastic! I'm humbled by how good this looks and by your kind words. I'm normally not a fan of green with tort, but this green with this tort work so well together. Your finisher did a great job too. That wiring scheme is bananas, I was wondering what you and Shadoweclipse13 were going to come up with for all of those switches. As I recall, the body was pretty light, what is the final weight?smjenkins wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 6:59 pm...and 10 billion years later, this guitar is finally finished. For those of you who haven't seen this before, the body is a 1-5/8" thick thinline with a single piece poplar back and a thin birch ply top with cream binding. There is also a rear contour. My fuchsia sparkle one has a similar construction and is super light, resonant, and loud.

Re: ThePearDream's Talman Projects
What a fantastic project. I particularly love the pickups, wiring scheme, and pickup covers. Very clever.
If you're not enamored with the bled pots, you could always use the 3-way toggle as Pickup A/both/Pickup B, and then use the two pots you freed up for a PTB circuit to regain the bright/dark function you lost from the 3-ways.

Re: ThePearDream's Talman Projects
That color is gorgeous With the binding and everything!
You are very welcome!! I love the epic requests! Occasionally there's a request for something that's just too much for knowledge base, but I do love a challenge. I'm a little bummed that the blends don't work as well as you'd hoped. Would a different pot value make a difference? I wonder if one of the other wiring gurus know something I don't (I mean, I know they do, but for this specific case )
That is a really cool idea!! Simple, but elegant.

That looks so damn good. I'm in the green/tort can look good camp, and this is further proof.
Fantastic stuff.

This right here is fantastic. The color and the guard are perfect. The Talman shape is striking when done up this way. Great job!

The final weight is 7.5 lbs. It's got a Warmoth neck and they can be a bit heavy. It is super resonant and sounds wonderful before it's even plugged in.
