Curtis Novak JM-90 Bridge/ JM-V Neck.... is still the best i've heard
I've played MANY Jazzmaster pickups of Fender brand and non....and the Novaks are absolutely fantastic!
I've been playing them for about 4 years now, and the JM-90 Bridge/ JM-V Neck is the perfect sound for me.
SO many times i've tried to get a 'different' sound or flavor to add variety to my guitar option, but i ALWAYS compare everything to that Novak setup.
i love it.

I have a JMV/JMV set and am thinking about changing the bridge to a JM90 or JMFAT because it's a bit too thin for my taste... From what I read the fat has less treble and the 90 more mids?

I can't speak for the JM-90, which I imagine is great, but I've really enjoyed the JM-Fat and JM-T pickups. The JM-Fat is definitely very Jazzmastery but not at all shrill, and the tonal balance of the JM--V/JM-Fat with 1M pots is great.

P90 is my favorite pickup! Excellent for raw rock, especially.
Not a jazzmaster sound though.
I’d like to try a JM90 at some point however.

I’m looking at this combo, what style of music are you playing and what primary amp? CheersFootbutt wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 12:29 pmI've played MANY Jazzmaster pickups of Fender brand and non....and the Novaks are absolutely fantastic!

Not op, but I have the same pickup combo and I play into a 78 Princeton reverb. I make mostly clean jangly sparkly noise that never becomes a song because I’m too enamored with the sound of my instrument

I'm glad to hear you like your Novak's pups so much. I have some coming in the mail, although they are not the ones you mentioned, but the JM sized WRHBs. I got a really good deal on them second hand and will be dropping into my squire deluxe JM. It's my first set of "boutique" pups and I'm pretty stoked. Haven't really encountered a bad review about Novaks pups.

Good to hear that combo, and Novaks in general, sound so good. I've been looking at a JM-FAT (bridge) and JM-V (neck) set for my [hopefully upcoming at some point here] JM project.

Re: Curtis Novak JM-90 Bridge/ JM-V Neck.... is still the best i've heard
I too have Curtis Novak JM 90's. They are the best pickups I've ever had on any guitar....well almost. I had Curtis wind me a set of Jaguar pickups to match the output of the JM90's. These Jaguar pickups made my Squier Jag my go to guitar. No other guitar in any price range of any manufacturer comes close to how good this guitar sounds now. I did an A/B test using my Squier Jazzmaster up against a $10,000.00 1959 Les Paul. Although these are different guitars, the quality of the sound was equal. People in the store couldn't believe how good my guitar sounded.
If you're on the fence about these pickups you can get off....if you like P90's. For me the Jazzmaster P90 combo is a winner. By the way, the P90 pickups in the J Mascis are not the same. They're not bad but nowhere near as good sounding as the Novak's.
